The Constantia FTTH Thread

The timeline on http://constantiafibre.com/ has "First house connected to fibre on 29 June". Did that happen? If not, when is it likely to happen?

Have the estimated installation dates been removed from the map on that site? Clicking on the 'i' shows the zone number, but not the estimated installation date (for me, using Firefox browser). I think it used to show the estimated installation date for the area.

Yes they appear to have been. Haven't been in contact with them for a while but I'll post here when I am given info...

Woo hoo, I see coverage has now been extended to the Deurdrif area. :)

The map, however, no longer shows implementation dates. Any update if the first house has been connected and how the rollout is going?

Good news I believe the same setup and packages is coming over the hill to Hout Bay as well. There are a few estates that would be a no brainer .Exactly when is not known but there are talks being done.

So there has been a bit of silence for the past few weeks, but I spoke with some of the guys and there will be official channels of communication opening up on Twitter and Facebook very very soon (requesting date now and will update ASAP).

So far I have word I will be getting mine in the next few weeks. I'll post up pics.

EDIT: will post about laying progress when I get the necessary data.

Emailed Vox Telecom last night and received an email this morning saying that Zone 14 (Deurdrif) should be ready for activations from 15 Feb 2016.

Hey, the map did not have any dates two days ago!

Good to see they've now added completion dates back to the map.

News bulletin from Frogfoot:

______________________________________________________________________

We’re finally able to move from the Planning phase to the Build phase on the Constantia FTTH project. We know we’ve been a bit quiet, but certainly not idle! Behind the scenes (and in some cases, down dark holes) staff have been working very long days to get the planning of the network finalised, and negotiating with the authorities to move the wayleave process forward. A new set of maps have been uploaded to the ConstantiaFibre.com portal; current planning now indicates that the first houses will have fibre running past them as from the 4th of September 2015. Silverhurst Estate should commence within the next few weeks.

If you’ve built a house, you’ll know that it can take an excruciatingly long time to get the plans and approvals done. Scale that up to suburb size and you’ll have an inkling of some of the challenges we face. While the process of using drains and sewers for optic fibre cables is old hat to Link Africa, it is foreign to those in charge of drains and sewers. Challenges have presented themselves and been overcome; some (approvals from Roads, Water and Sanitation, Water Works) are yet to be overcome. We’re making progress though and hope to make up some time as Build momentum grows. The City agreed this week to fast track Build wayleaves so civils work can commence. If, and we certainly hope this is not necessary, we have to revise target dates for each Zone again, these will be published on the map.

We can’t wait. We can only imagine how impatient the residents of Constantia are!

I live right next to Silverhurst, so I can only assume my date range still applies.

Well this is flipping interesting! Telkom guys were surveying my street today for their own FTTH network!

They have stated previously that they would not be competing on the ground level. It seems as though this is not necessarily true!

Their contractor set up camp at the bottom of Rathfelder about 2 weeks ago. You can see the ducting and kiosk there.

Definitely not true, Telkom will be covering Constantia too.

Seems like constantia has run into unexpected delays from the city of Cape Town?(if you read the status updates) Is it again the case of politicians getting in the way again?
I stay in Hout Bay and we hoping it will come over the hill ,so watching constantia
