or suddenly upgrade the local exchange and bring their own fibre into the estate... it seems they only respond to competition

Come and share your sarmies with me at 12:30pm on Tuesday 13 October. Telkom have summoned all their wholesale clients to "something big" that's being launched via WebEx.

Great news!

http://www.htxt.co.za/2015/09/23/li...se-to-install-fibre-in-municipal-water-pipes/

The Constitutional Court has ordered that Link Africa's method of installing in the sewer piping is completely legal. The legal precedent has been set. It should follow that City of CT must allow the installation to go ahead without this labourious stakeholder process.

Still need to confirm the situation, but this is great news regardless.

received build plans yesterday. we're greenfield estate, so trenching is pretty simple.

They're running 24 pairs up to the estate from the DFA junction in SLP. Then from the ODF at our guardhouse they're splitting it to cover sections of the estate.

final go live is 15 november - 8 weeks and counting

Looking really awesome. I hope you light up soon

That's fantastic progress. It's also on mybb now: http://mybroadband.co.za/news/fibre/...structure.html

I understood that Link Africa already believed it had the legal backing to start work in Cape Town, but chose to rather work with the City as part of longer term relationship building strategy. I think they are wise.

I haven't read this actual judgement. This issue has many nuances and aspects of it have been going on for a while, but let's see if lawyers and managers in Cape Town decide to capitalise on this or just wait for current process to unfold and unlock all the suburbs waiting on the outcome

Hi guys. I'm moving into a newly built house off Doordrift Rd (Zone 6). One of the lines is directly in my road. From what I understand it will be a while until FTTH is ready. Should I signup now for when it launches (any ISP recommended?), and get ADSL in the interim?

Welcome to the 'hood squirrel, you're just around the corner from me.

Sign up to the Constantia Fibre website now, the more interest the service providers see, the better.

Welcome to the Valley. It's awesome (just needs more fibre in our diet)

Please definitely sign on the website. We need to keep the momentum going.

The fibre is really only being deployed from January (except in select places like the main roads where they are trenching) so definitely consider an interim measure

It's a popular suburb for squirrels :)

That's what Telkom keep telling me every time my line screws up lol.

Question for you guys. The outside paving etc WITHIN the boundaries of my house will be completed in a few weeks. Is there a point in laying tubing underground so that the fibre can be fed through there? Trying to avoid digging up everything again. There's a Telkom pole at the back of the house (assuming that's where they'll connect us for a telephone line and ADSL for the interim)

BTW - who are you finding to be the best people to contact at Telkom, to get the most specific and up-to-date details on the Constantia rollout and eligibility?

I only have the 'official' channels

You can PM me if it's sensitive info

The installation guys are coming around to survey tomorrow! Woohoo!

I will be posting pics when the installation happens. No idea of final dates though.

I am wondering what the City of Cape Town is doing to expedite the Frogfoot/Link Africa fibre rollout?

Spoke to one of the guys when he came and did the survey. LA is busy finalising the agreements and trenching should begin once their machinery comes in from Europe. Maybe a month from now? Not sure.

The sewer based work should start next year. Apparently CoCT doesn't believe in Supreme Court rulings...

use their ducts anyways. the only way they can then take the fibre out of their ducts is with a court order. which they wont get

ps - we don't have supreme court in SA - only high court and constitutional court

Apologies meant high court!

The problem with causing offense with the authorities is will it produce a healthy relationship down the lane if they are going to be working with them for the next 20 years? Tricky stuff.
