The Constantia FTTH Thread

Apologies meant high court!

The problem with causing offense with the authorities is will it produce a healthy relationship down the lane if they are going to be working with them for the next 20 years? Tricky stuff.

yeh its tricky - I would imagine that any healthy relationship went out the window when they decide to ignore high court orders and pursue their own agenda anyways.

its a judgement call you guys will have to make

Which brings me back to the $1m question

I am wondering what the City of Cape Town is doing to expedite the Frogfoot/Link Africa fibre rollout?

In the spirit of transparent governance I want to know what is happening, what they are doing (with dates and times)

I tried to mail our DA councillor, Liz Brunette. The first response was the expected 'we need to follow due process' etc, but that was some time ago.

If nothing is done this week, the 9 Dec deadline for Cape Town wide approval will be missed, and we'll be jumping to mid January (earliest)

Here's my tweet earlier on - please forward, favourite and tweet yourselves until we find out more

Is Cape Town "Making Progress Possible, Together" on Constantia fibre delays? Can the DA learn from Joburg, Durban? #constantia #ftth #fibre

I had no downtime, for others it was about 30 minutes.

The perks of being a higher tier ISP where everything is controlled in house. :)

Hi. Yes, it does have its perks.

It seems you were quite fortunate though.

According to the downdetector.co.za website, the problem was first reported at 6.36am
MWeb tweeted the issue at 7.51am
MWeb tweeted at 8.36 that they expected services to return to normal in 30 minutes
MWeb tweeted the all-clear at 9.31

I assume this would not have affected the fibre subscribers. Grrrr

There will an AGM happening this Tuesday coming 3rd Nov concerning the FTTH rollout. Craig Carthy from Link Africa will be providing an update for those interested. Starts 18.30 at the Alphen Hotel.

Please post any updates in the thread. Patiently waiting to hear about fibre :)

Is this meeting specifically for the Constantia fibre roll-out, or is it part of a bigger meeting?

Agenda from email:

- Update on fibre to the Home project by Craig Carthy – CEO Link Africa
- Short address by Cllr Liz Brunette
- Address and report on Crime activity and planned action by Mike Voortman
- Short AGM and Committee election for 2016
- Wine tasting from our local wine farms and some snacks

Craig Carthy will be there. He's a really great guy and will happily answer questions if you chat with him. Obviously the AGM is concerning all the issues of Constantia, but I imagine there will be a significant focus on the rollout considering its importance.

It's the Constantia Watch meeting, so focused on crime. They are prime drivers of the fibre project.

The main community meeting was two weeks ago. I had to be out of town so missed that one. It was just a general update on the rollout that took place

Thanks for the heads up on these, Jack

Good meeting!

GREAT news is that 300 homes will be connected before the end of the year via traditional trenching (myself included). Ground breaking begins next Monday.

The rest of Constantia will be hooked up before next June.
