The consumer mobile data segment is saturated says Cell C

Our competitors have caught up from a pricing perspective, and the data market is saturated on mobile data player space.”

Offer a superior service focused on customer experience, and you will not only retain your current subscribers, but gain new ones as well. You gotta set yourself apart from the rest.

I'm a consumer and my demand is definitely saturated. I don't need a network to try tell me it is. I'm just waiting for a decent deal to compete with my useless adsl line and including a decent-speed modem in the deal (42 mbps :-)

They need to refocus, I agree. So far they did focus on low-end customers. Now having data network operational and tested they can shift focus to the business user. It is how I understand this announcement. They are not going to abandon existing data users with moderate requirements, but the most heavy data users will have to go elsewere.

drop your prices and do away with 2 year contracts and lets see how saturated the market really is

First network to launch a decent "uncapped on cell" product wins my business, and the market in general I bet.

This model wont be feasible until wireline is more abundant....if you think about it the operators may as well do wireline networks if they need to put up enough towers to achieve this

I mentioned in another thread or few, I think the ideal situation for all the mobile guys is to get as many users on some fixed line access and to offer it as a hotspot to other clients from the same operator thus freeing up data spectrum for roaming. Then shift voice to VOIP and eventually refarm the GSM spectrum.

Make the hotspot 4 x cheaper or such than 3/4G and you should get plenty of clients.

You call R149 for 2GB of Internet per month saturated????

How can Cell C aim for government if they're network quality is so bad? If government signs up with them they wont have network for half the time.

Cell C should do the following before aiming for big fish:

1. Improve Network Quality - Where I live i have NO network cover for Cell C, yet I can get HSPA+ Cover from Vodacom and MTN in this area.

2. Make packages that will attract the customers. Something like uncapped internet, i.e: 1mbps Uncapped 3G Internet for lets say R699 or so. R149 for 2GB or R99 for 1GB simply isn't going to cut it.

Cell C I hope you go to the drawing board, devise some "Ultimate Plan" that will "shock" the other networks. But first improve quality of network.

This should read: "Our ability to sell to consumers is saturated" says Cell C

What Cell C is really saying is that it is no longer the new kid on the block and AKC has decreed that Cell C has lost its appetite for real competition (price).

Malema has also left a huge void in the government tender market, which Cell C hopes to snap up any which way possible.
