The Courier Guy / Pudo - A Broken System and Frustrating Experience

Hope they can get their ducks in a row, because if done right, it is a really nice system. Wonder sometimes why companies like this do not invest in getting a proper system and software designed. By now they should have the capital?
They have but their devs are really stupid, I spoke to one on the phone and the guy couldn't grasp very basic concepts, below junior level logic and reasoning. Which is why when I see what a fk up they make with every upgrade I'm not surprised in the slightest.

This is a management issue, there's no one providing proper oversight on many aspects of the business. It also doesn't help that it’s now owned by a Private Equity company so they are probably cost cutting to a stupid level and exacerbating the issue.

I wonder if we are going to see an Afrihost ( @Afrihost-Gian ) success story, where they went through a teething phase as they scaled and grew and had to make major adjustments, trusting in where they are heading, and in the long terms created a solid company with support (of course not without its issues consider the size of the company), or will they slowly collapse. Both companies seems to have started running from a garage, TCG I just sometime get the feeling they are still in the same garage. I really want them to succeed though, but in such a competitive market, built on the collapse of the postal service, someone else can take their place in provide similar Locker to Locker services.

I had an astoundingly bad experience with PUDO today. I was depositing my package, and when I scanned the barcode, the wrong door opened - a very different door from what was displayed on the screen. Mine was a small, and the door that opened was a large. Plus it already had someone’s big package inside!!! Even though I clicked on not doing a successful drop off, it registered as successful!!!

The WhatsApp support was useless. They directed me to email support. The email guys eventually sent a courier to pick up the parcel, but put the wrong address information on the system! It took a couple of calls before the parcel was taken.

Now I don’t know if I can trust the system. What if it is my door that opens for someone else and they take my parcel?!?

I have heard of this happening numerous times but I've never had it happen to me personally before.
It is very dodgy and their support is horrendous, which you sadly discovered first hand.

Worst experience is receiving sms to pickup from the correctly designated locker. Get there pin doesn't work. After very frustrating 30min to get to speak to someone, turns out they sent it to a whole other locker location.

Wont ever use them again

Has anyone discovered a way to set your default drop-off locker on the website?
On the app you can at least select the last used locker.
It seems at some point after they re-did the Pudo website it defaulted to whatever the locker that was last used at the time.
It's a pita having to select a different one now every time you want to book a Pudo

Wait till all Pudo users experience the new update.
So now, your locker dropoff pin will work at any locker, however you don't get to choose a locker station beforehand.
You have to drive to one and HOPE there's an empty locker, otherwise you will have to drive around the city searching for a locker station with an empty locker

What fools do they have in business coming up with these updates????

I saw that and that's exactly what I was expecting to happen, whoever is managing Pudo is as daft af
At my local lockers sometimes I have to wait days for one to open, especially on weekends, it’s irritating as it is having to login multiple times repeatedly checking for an open locker, if I had to drive there every time to do that it would be absolutely ridiculous.

They are probably trying to force people to use under utilised lockers, an idea implemented with zero foresight

Never seen this. Interesting. Will keep an eye open in future. Anyone else had that?
Yes, went to collect a package at a PUDO locker. The correct door opened, but when I closed it, 2 others opened, one under the other. The person who was waiting behind me to collect started shouting, saying I had gippoed the system and should be reported to the police. His wife, who was watching from the car said the doors had opened after I closed mine

I sent an email to TCG but they did not reply

Has anyone else experienced this silly new method?

I looked at Pudo now and it's the only way, beyond ridiculous
"No need to select a parcel locker, You can now drop off at ANY of our parcel lockers nationwide!"
YAY!!!!!!!
Not

Yup, I had the unfortunate experience on Sunday dragging on to Monday evening. The recipient opted to use PUDO.

On Sunday late morning I rocked up at my local locker only to be met with "No Space" message after I've gone through the whole process of selecting "Deposit" and entering the pin.
Ok, no stress - I'll try in the morning as I expect people still need to collect their stuff.

Monday morning before work I stop, only to go through the same process and getting the same message.
Ok, I'll check online where other lockers are once at work.
Note - I seems that the website does not distinguish between branch/lockers and or lockers only as I've arrived now at Franschhoek depot without lockers. We (myself and the staff working) found out that with these bookings you can only deposit in a locker. The system does not allow the locker to be skipped and received by staff.

Back in Paarl the evening I finally got a empty locker to deposit into.

Hope I will never be forced again to use their services.

Maybe it is a location thing, Sent and received multiple items through pudo over the last few years and never an issue.
Worst I get is the "Parcel not detected, did you place the parcel in the locker?" prompt and say yes and done.

It generally did work great until this new update below:

I did not even notice that option on my last two pudos and both in the last couple of weeks.

I'm getting more people asking about what other locker options they can use since this last update.

One friend that uses pudo almost daily had to drive 30km to the closest kiosk as not a single locker within 20km was available and with the kiosk adding an extra R20 to drop off at the kiosk. On 8 packages that was an extra R160 excluding the extra fuel driving around looking for open lockers.

I'm just referring everyone to BobGo. They don't have the same footprint of lockers but their service and cost is better than the current pudo offering.
