The Craft Beer Thread

Annoyed... First opened a Glenhof Draught, and then an Apollo IPA, both completely over carbonated. This irritates the hell out of me. So many small Breweries seem to think that it's OK to charge the earth for a product that is totally inconsistent and basically undrinkable. All because it's a "natural" product, or artisinally produced. BS, these guys will not survive if they keep putting rubbish like this on the market. I am of the view that this level of carbonation can only be a sanitation issue, which just isn't good enough. /rant...

Got some Honingklip beers yesterday from the brewery. What I wanted was sold out so got others. Their stout is terribly carbonated. Takes five minutes to pour a glass before you can drink it.

Not consistent as others are fine depending on the batch.

I had the CBC Octoberfest the other day. Man if you see it try it so good. Full flavor with an awesome caramel finish, but not too sweet. Yum stuff.

I like the Two Okes Brewery beer range. They are quite a recent addition to the Craft Beer Market in SA. the brewmaster is passionate and seems to know what he is doing.

Hangklip IPA. Not too heavy on the hops. It has quite a nice refreshing taste. Could certainly sink a few of these in a session :D

Had one yesterday, not too bad for a lager, but I wouldn't say it had any particular characteristics that differentiate it from main stream lagers. Had a Pilsner earlier and busy with a Krystal Weiss now, quite enjoy both

I prefer the Pilsner, bit that is all the liquor store had that day. I beg to differ, it is better than most main stream lagers.

Discovered these, haven't heard of the brewer before, not sure what to expect

I picked up one of those robust porters, might just have it tonight...

trying the robust porter now, reminds me a lot of the Notties Pickled Pig Porter, maybe a bit more fruitiness

wanted to try the Goshawk, but there's a lot of sediment and I need to let that settle first

Don't know how you found it, but the porter I had was horrendous. Sour...

so the Goshawk is horrific, thick yeast sediment in the bottle, poured as much as I could without disturbing this but the beer itself was undrinkable, very green and yeasty tasting, with bitter after taste, poured it down the drain

Tried the 2nd Porter, these guys definitely have a consistency problem, managed to get through about half before it went down the drain

Had a cbc imperial ipa this evening. Man I enjoy their beers. This was a little sweet, nice warm alcohol, decent hop flavour and aroma. Overall a good beer. Nice to finish the weekend with something great.
