The Craft Beer Thread

be sure to hold upsidedown and give a little swirl to mix the sediment into the beer.

Mostly I would advise against this... Especially beers with lots of character. The yeast sediment will dull it down. You will lose out on the subtle flavours.

So I went to roeland liquors in town and got a little carried away. If you are in Cape Town and love craft beer more than your credit card you best get going! Oh and did I mention they have a license to trade on Sundays (11am to 4pm)?

Nice, did the credit card squeal? :D

I see you got a hardcore and punk IPA, different style labels to the ones I had, must check which is the newest.

Anyway, keen to see your views on those 2.

Did not enjoy Jozi Thunder... Interested to hear more about Frasers Folly, Saboteur and Apollo IPA's.

Might just go get those (and possibly more) @ lunchtime.

I've had two Frasers Follys. See posts 26 & 27. I liked it. Think it's brewed in Struisbaai or Agulhas. Nice presentation too.

First time I've seen the new labels. So I recon its a very recent change

Edit: yes the card squealed, but fortunately fraud department didn't call ;)

The saboteur is a very middle of the road IPA. Very light on the hops. I've had the frasers stout and enjoyed it so looking forward to the IPA.

I had the frasers stout a while ago. Was horrendously over carbonated and not good at all.

Brewdog vs Weihenstephan is an IPA and Weiss cross. That should be interesting... Clown King is a barley wine. 12% VOL should make it interesting too. The rest are all IPA's that I haven't had before, including a fresh batch from Gallows Hill, that was bottled on the 26th.

That Brewdog vs Weihenstephan was strange. First few sips, the Weiss aroma was a bit too much (not a big Weiss fan these days), but it changed after that. Nice and hoppy Weiss, basically. I then dished up a green curry. It went REALLY well with that. Overall I liked it. Next up is this one...

Clown King is a hopped up, amped up American style barley wine. Ready to corrupt your senses, this beer is a riot of flavour and aroma. On Clown King’s nose you’ll find caramel and toasted marshmallow aromas, but also raisin and dried fruit. With toasty malt and sweet dark fruit flavours, and a smooth, chewy mouthfeel, you’ll be lulled into a false sense of security, before the Clown King springs up and flings a bucket of spicy, fruity hops right in your face.

Will report back later.

That Punked IPA is nasty, had it in the UK earlier in the month, did not enjoy it that much!

Okay. Clown King is quite special. Honey and caramel nose, weird port-like middle flavour (with an alcohol burn) and a hoppy IPA type finish. Perfect end to a relaxing evening...

Really enjoying this one. A bit tamer than their kings block house with a smooth finish. I think I could do a few of these in a session :D

First issue. Heavy in the Gass so huge head. Probably should have had this one before Devils peak. Pretty nondescript at the moment, but getting a bit more flavour as the head subsides. I like that IPA hop kick which I'm not really getting here.

Edit: i think the carbonation overwhelmed whatever flavour there was. Won't be making my rebuy list.

Over carbonated beers really p1ss me off, either the brewery doesn't care about the beer going into the bottle, or its infected, either way that's pretty poor for a beer I'm spending R30+ on.
