The Craft Beer Thread

They don't indulge the beer nerds if they don't give a FG to go with that OG. Also, 20+ IBU isn't bitter at all. IPAs are supposed to be in the 55~70 range. Castle Lager has around 20 IBUs in it. I like that they're using S.Passion though. Local is lekker!

Nobody said an IPA is measured in IBUs, but it is a guideline still. IPAs and hazy IPAs and NEIPAs and APAs and most of the beers in that style are guided by bitterness (let me re-phrase that) hops, which is a benchmark for the style. 20 might be perceived, I don't know, but it seems low to me, for a beer claiming to be an IPA. That's like saying a Vienna lager is very hop-forward and the notes of grapefruit it present. Fine, but then it's not a Vienna lager, which is supposed to be a malt-forward brew.

I dunno. To me an IPA is an IBU bomb. 20 IBUs isn't an IBU bomb. It's pretty low, actually.

You're still not getting it it seems

... Its a HOP bomb ... not an IBU bomb

... and who said us brewers may not brew a "Hoppy Grapefruit Vienna Lager" :p

Yeah hop bomb is probably more like it. I think this calls for an experiment. I'm going to brew a SMaSH sometime - light and pale, and then split it before the boil. One half boiled with more hops, one without, and then both dry-hopped in the final stages of fermentation to see the difference. Perhaps it'll convince me.

Has anyone tried out https://www.bestcraftbeer.co.za/ yet? Good cross section of the country's top beers (including two of mine).
Not when I have Liquor City claremont nearby :X3:.

Some nice looking stuff on there tho, but the size of the packs is a bit much for me. Prefer buying a lot of different things than 8 or 12 of something I might not like. Your Vol. 4 Black Imperial IPA tho...that available in store?

It's ok.
Generally find lagers a bit boring when there's so many nice stouts & ipa etc.
