The Dreaded PC Reset/Shut Down

Anyone got a GTX 970 that can tell me what their FPS under the PSU stress test in OCCT are like and if its stable. I expect something like 300+ and not fluctuating much.
DX 11 and 1920x1080 resolution.

Thanks!

Started at ~350 fps, then dropped to fluctuate between ~325-340. Drop is correlated to max CPU and RAM usage, so is probably due to the simultaneous high CPU load.

This is with a 2500k at 4.4Ghz and 12GB RAM.

edit: oh and Corsair VX550 PSU.

Whats the brand of the 970?

Galax 970 GTX.

Update,

Took my entire PC to Wootware, tested on another 970, same issue. However we put my card and their test 970 into my mates PC and the end result is both cards on both machines are having issues. However both GPUs are fine on Wootware's test PC.

The only similarity between my PC and my mates is that he is running a i5 3570 and I have an i5 3570K. Wootware is running an i3 something.

Literally have not idea whats wrong now...

This is fantastic, compared to my tests on my mates and my PC it starts at 340fps then both PCs either turns off or the fps drops to 120ish after 10-20sec into the test.

PS which brand do you have?

What you describe makes no sense, I would also be confused.

What MB chipset/socket is wootware's i3 running on? All I can think of is chipset related issues maybe seing as both you and your mate are on older 1155 related chipsets...

I didn't look myself but I was told it was ivy bridge so its the same as my i5.

I've got a Galax.

Uh, well I ran the test windowed on a 1920x1200 monitor. I did a full screen 1920x1200 a couple of times and it dropped to <100fps on one of the tests. Seems like the program is poor at balancing CPU and GPU load.

I wouldn't be phased about once, but everytime... Not ideal. Besides the resetting of course :p

Update,

Wootware think its the PSU, even though it reset on 4 different PSUs and a 5th Wootware PSU while I was there. Hope to get some positive feedback next week.

My question, would a defective PSU cause issues with another PSU if you were to swap it out shortly after using the defective one? And if so for how long could that possibly affect the new PSU?

What size PSU's are the using when it resets?
Earlier on in the thread you mentioned a 600W or 650W, is that still the case?

Have you tested the motherboard?

This sounds like Either PSU, motherboard or faulty GPU. Test GPU in another system to see if it's giving the same issue. Heck it could even be the power plug for some reason not being able to handle the load.

Funny it could even be your multiplug.

I've heard of asus motherboard being incompatible with certain power supply's before.

Placed all my components on my mates motherboard and on Wootwares motherboard, reset on both boards.

This sounds like a faulty graphics card for sure. Just think for a minute what stays the same. The graphics card. So It can only be that for now.

I tested the GPU in my mates PC, reset, hence i thought it was the GPU. However Wootware tested with one of their GPUs (same make and model) and the same thing happened.

I have tied multiple multiplugs.

Its a tough one, I can feel the whole internet waiting for an answer to this one.

This is weird cause this doesn't make sense. So can you summarize me what you have tested. I'm a bit lazy to read through it all. state what have you tested so far and what changed. By what I can grab from this is the following. You changed everything in system but still get random shutdowns so I don't know. seems like you cursed of some sort :p

After reading again. looks like a faulty batch of gpu's. Try another brand model. What make and model GPU is that you testing?

So you say that when you take the graphics card and plug it into your friends pc it also shuts down? If not then could be a short on the motherboard. If so then only thing is the gpu faulty batch.

sorry for editing so much but I want to get as much information as possible. Can you please give me the exact model of that corsiar psu's you tried?

I have tried a 450 Geforce but the PC only seems to reset when put under heavy load. So the 450 was fine, I don't have another GPU to test with and Wootware only have the Galax cards on hand. I have left it in Wootware's hands since I bought everything from them so they should be able to find the issue.

I am just going to report progress and my experience with this RMA here. If nothing else guys can get an idea of what to expect with RMA-ing with a supplier.
