The Droid TV thread

I wish then I wouldn't had to ask these questions. I have an amazon fire tv gen1 which I have dstv now working on and recently bought a U1. So was just curious as I know it didnt work on the U1 and would save me alot of time not trying different versions.

DStv enquirers are treated with suspicion. Especially your profile. How did you get it working on the fire?

All hail Multichoice!

True true. Sideloaded dstv now and connect. At first I thought it wasn't going to work as when you try to open connect it just closes immediately. But when I opened dstv now it asked me for the connect details and the rest was history. Only downfall is that I need to use a bluetooth mouse to control the app as the remote doesn't work.

Anyone knows of a free vpn service or cheap one. Which ones are good to use? . Anyone used purevpn. 5$ a month.

Hi all
New here and just purchased a shiney new Xiaomi Mi Box (US version). Read before that this box works with DStv Now. Been playing and trying to get this going with no luck. Sideloaded different versions of the app but it still will not open. Can any of the Mi Box owners using the DStv Now app offer tips on what version of the app to use or other things to try (PS update the Mi Box to the latest firmware)

Update: Got SuperSport app working but DStv Now still does not open (have tried different versions released over the last 6 months but no luck)

So got my Xiaomi Mi Box (International Version). All in all it was landed at around R1600. The box is MUCH better than the WD TV LIVE I was using. I haven't pushed it much yet. Mostly Netlfix, some twitch.tv and then tried a few 4k downloads. Played the 4k perfectly (from what I could see). Casting from my phone works well!

Only downside I can see at the moment is the 8gb of internal storage which gets packed rather quickly.

the small internal storage is a bummer. I'm going to pop a decent sized flash disk into a usb hub. Fortunately Android 6 allows one to add that to internal storage

Noob here...

Can the Mi Box run the DSTV now app or Kodi? I assume it will require some additional flashing???

tx appreciate the info.

Have you or anyone else successfully side loaded DSTV now on one? Just wanna make double sure before i pull the trigger.

Also, which box is better for the kodi/dstv now setup. The Mi BOX or the NT-N8?

Hi All,

[ignore the first paragraph if you wish]

Hmm so I've been researching android/tv-top boxes or as i prefer to call it media players for a bit now. I've been using kodi (exodus) on my phone-to-tv via mhl cable just to play around with to see if i like it. I must admit it's very intriguing at first with all it's content but the amount of problems such as buffering, dead-links is most annoying. Nonetheless i'm willing to try out a media player and have loads of questions.

Before i actually ask them i wanted to know something else that i stumbled across last night. Why would a series/movie buffer, switch off when trying to fast forward, basically be unwatchable on multiple links, when played through Exodus but when i watched it on an app like Showbox it plays flawlessly? I obviously ended up watching it via Showbox (which seems to use torrents) making me think/feel like why not just use another app over kodi - obviously i must either be doing something wrong or missing something because kodi still seems to be the most popular for movies/ series.

Best Regards,
Advisor - peace out.

Yes, I have. I've never used a NT-N8 so unfortunately can't compare.

hmm this thread is rather quiet..

perhaps i should start a new one for my question above

Have you tried Terrarium TV ?

Better than Showbox IMO.

Has anyone here tried out Droid Buddy? I'm hearing good things about this "all-in-one" app.

If I find some time later on I'll put it on the Shield and check it out.

Had a look at it now and it looks promising. Will download and check it out. Thanks.

Still curious why kodi's such a craze when other apps like Showbox works so much better. I read on the tvaddons.ag forum that Showbox uses vk streaming and one should search for apps that uses that - can't find any info on what's vk streaming tho :/.

Let us know how the droid buddy go bro.

With Kodi - you can easily track what your watched already. You can also integrate it with track.tv.

With Android aps currently there isn't a "build in" tracking.

Haven't used Showbox in years, but back in the day Showbox was notorious for not working consistently. Cannot comment on the current version of Showbox. Last time I tried to install Showbox, my anti virus gave a warning. So not very keen on installing Showbox. But again this was a few years back.

I have installed it this morning. Looks promising. But still have to spend time with the app.

For those who don't know Droid Buddy, it is like Google Playstore for streaming aps. You can
download apps directly from Droid Buddy.

my schision (spelling wrong) v.88 box is stuck on the android logo. only started using the ****ing thing like 2 weeks ago. gonna look for the software later. unless someone has a link for me?
