The Droid TV thread

my schision (spelling wrong) v.88 box is stuck on the android logo. only started using the ****ing thing like 2 weeks ago. gonna look for the software later. unless someone has a link for me?
You are going to have to reflash the software if its stuck in a bootloop. Ask @xbmcfan for assistance

Droidbuddy is a all in one installation app. You cannot use it to watch content. You can use it to install Terrarium. Movies HD etc. Video title from Soloman misleading. It's a old and usefully app for sideloading easily

Yep, basically just an app that you can install apps, without using the App store or a browser. Most of these apps wont be in the app store anyway

Way better, will also get Marshmallow firmware next week.
Lots of the other devices get zero software support which is very important for compatibility with the latest video formats and apps.
Can play almost any video format, 10-bit x265, 10-bit x264, 4K, 1080p Youtube streaming.
HD Audio - DTS/AC3, DTSHD, TrueHD all work.

Delivery takes about 4 days or if ordered eg. on a Thursday, it should be delivered on Monday morning by DHL.
You can also leave an order message for EMS or postal service delivery(not recommended).
And it is cheaper than what you mentioned even the plus version with 5G wifi and 2GB RAM.
The heatsink is also decent and keeps the device stable.

Can anyone advise what device and model this is please and approximate cost? The Ali Express URL is broken for me...

It is a RK3229 and the Plus model with 16GB ROM, 2GB RAM and bluetooth.
There has been 5 Marshmallow firmware updates recently and it works very well.

Recommended to use Aramex Global Shopper to import since it will work out the cheapest with no problems.
This is for a Plus model but the normal one works out about R200 cheaper.
Eg. $44(price excluding shipping) x R12.72 = R559 + around R230 AGS China(when using an FNB card, otherwise R299) + around R50 AGS fee + R121 duty = R960
Or shipping directly with DHL = R890 + R137 + R150 = R1177.
You are allowed to receive 2 gifts of R1400 each per year tax free, just read up on how it works and if shipped with AGS it can work out around R790.

Can ask the seller for Paypal payment also since Aliexpress uses Alipay by default, then you can also register for Paypal free return shipping for peace of mind.

I ordered mine through Scotts Shipping Services, R1,108 delivered to my door.

Upgraded to HPH RK3288 Lollipop ROM v1.6 By Mo123 - http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/rk3288-devices/nagrace-3288-devices/564418-hph-rk3288-lollipop-rom-v1-6-by-mo123

Vast improvement on my old MXQ box :)

Scott's Shipping Services also recommended for convenience.

Maybe you are confusing RK3288 which is a little more expensive with RK3229?
But there are RK3229, RK3288, RK3368, RK3328 and soon RK3399, so it is a little confusing :)

If using RK3229, there is Marshmallow v1.5a firmware and v1.5 Lollipop.
If using RK3288, there is Lollipop v1.9 firmware.

If using Lollipop, you can upgrade to the latest Kodi by downloading it from here - https://github.com/JamesLinEngineer/RKMC/blob/Jarvis/RKMC-Build/rkmcapp-armeabi-v7a-debug-tiny.apk and copying this codec file librkffplayer.so to /system/lib from https://github.com/JamesLinEngineer/RKMC/tree/Jarvis/RKMC-Patches for your chipset and OS.
You can root from Accessibility Options to gain access to change system files and later unroot again.
Kodi 17 is missing working auto frame-rate support in Playback options and the extra features added to RKMC, NTMC but other than that also runs great and supports HD Audio.

Mo123's thread title is a little misleading as the ROM is now at Marshmallow v1.9 (Android 6.0.1), I should have checked before copy/pasting

Currently using exodus on NTMC when needed but I'm not a great Kodi fan.

Why would you use Scott's or Aramez if that link comes with free DHL shipping ?

Am I missing something ?

One word - convenience.

I PM Scott with what I want and he quotes me a price, delivered to my door, in rands.

If I accept the quote I get a VAT invoice - it's as easy as ordering from Takealot :)

That I coudlnt understand. But that item costs 70 usd ( call it R1000) including DHL which I am sure is not less that a R400 worth of freight.....

Do you get a discount from seller for not using DHL or you happy to pay a few hundred extra for the convenience?

Ok. Got xbmc back in the mx2. Any add-on pre kodi similar to exodus.

**** I was enjoying the streaming experience.

Gonna fix that Damn v2.88 firmware today

 I deal only with Scott. No interaction with seller, customs or courier whatsoever.

I was quite happy to pay R1,108 for the Nagrace NT-N8 Plus delivered in 10 days which doesn't seem too out of line with what has been discussed here if I wanted to import it on a DIY basis (which I didn't).

The seller gives $25-$30 discount if they don't have to ship with DHL themselves and can ship to a local Aramex AGS or other freight address in China.
DHL sometimes audit around 1/20 packages and then you have to pay them over R500 in disbursement fees, so for better peace of mind some people use AGS or Scott's shipping services to not worry about things like that. But PM me if needed then I can give some more advise if needed.

Ok cool. I understand now. Thanks

Scott... Scott!!! :)
