Now the app opens up to the home screen and allows navigation around the menus, but streaming of live or catch up content does not work
And all that appears is a splash screen in the middle of the screen that lasts about 3 seconds displaying the title of the content I'm trying to stream

Eg trying to watch BBC News this appears in the middle of the screen for 3secs with some kind of timer then disappears and screen goes back to the main menu. Any ideas?

https://www.engadget.com/2017/06/07/kodi-addons-phoenix-zemtv-dish-network-lawsuit/

Addons Phoenix, F.t.f.a, Bamf, UK Turk (Live TV), Sportie, Zem, Silent Hunter, Ccloud, SALTS (developer change), Reaper, Evolve (Live TV), SRTVHUB, Teevie, Echostreams, Echo TV Guide, Vortex Skynet have all been made unavailable. Its just a matter of time before the rest follow.

What did I tell you guys? It was inevitable! (Read my previous comments warning about Kodi and the demise of so-called "free" streaming)...

I don't get why we should be upset about blatantly illegal services coming to an end. Surely Kodi is far better used for what it is actually built for?

Because once the studios and tv networks has closed down streaming they will turn their attention to other KODI features... Think about it....Kodi's main function is for the consumption of local media content (Think downloaded MP3s, movies, tv shows etc). It will just be a matter of time.

If the local content has been legitimately acquired, how (and why) would they oppose it?

Because of the way your media will be scrutinized, this could be called "ethical scrubbing of media".

In other words, if you have a movie on DVD you want to share to your entire household and you rip it to HDD, your media "could" potentially be removed by 3rd-party software (KODI) as a "regulating" agent... UNACCEPTABLE!

Why would they only target KODI? You are able to play local media using Plex.
