Ok the lit box not having netflix sucks and the work around apps for netflix sucks.

I need a box that can run netflix, plex and kodi. What else is the answer other than mi box?

And if mi box is the best answer, what is the best why to get a hold of one?

Anything with a AMLOGIC S905 chip. Stay away from the Rockchip chips. The chips are not compatible with a lot of streaming apps and you have quite a problem with Kodi... (Here is a list from GearBest: https://www.gearbest.com/android-tv-box-amlogic-_gear/)

To give you an idea, I am a beta tester for Zidoo, the best box manufacturers (IMOO), but they insist running on the Rockchip platform. There are always hassles on the Rockchip platform with Netflix and DSTV NOW just DO NOT WORK!!!

I have just landed a MI and waiting for custom clearance (next day or so). I will then be able to give you a very good answer. The only problem I can see is the box does not have an ETHERNET connection (even 100BT would have changed the box completely), so I am very sceptical if this is going to be the best box for me. If not, watch this space, as I will drop it faster than this morning's 'drop'...

Still a Rockchip platform AND seen as rooted by many streaming apps...

Not sure where you get the Dstv Now and Netflix doesn't work on Rockchip devices.

I have a HPH NT-V6 and both of those run perfectly. The only time Dstv now didn't work, was when I rooted the box. Kodi works fine, but we hardly use it these days, because more often the links are dead.

Think I bought this box from @Rouxenator quite a while back, and it's still going great.

Sorry, this (RK3288) is one of the few that actually works (AND IS VERY OUTDATED...). AND if you care to look, you will see/find that I build and release roms on Freaktab and am in close contact with Mo123, so I believe I do have a better understanding on what works and what don't...

Just a last point:
The reason I say that Rockchip does not work "(most of the time)" is to assist anyone reading this forum and not to get burnt with a box that does not work right. Rule of thumb, for anyone who wants a cheap box that works, is to use a S905 chip. It becomes very easy finding even local suppliers of these boxes...

Afterthought:
Kodi becomes very important to anyone who has a NAS/SAMBA server in his home. Using KODI as a streaming device of illegal content is just OH-SO-STUPID. There is WAY more ways streaming using native Android than getting Kodi with broken sources.

You can flash a non rooted rom, and you will be fine with all streaming apps.

Go to Freatktab and check over there

Custom roms are not available for any box, it is only available for a very small 'niche' market.

Where can I get an X9s locally?

You can't.

I sold a spare one I had two months ago. What happened if I bricked mine while doing a firmware reload. So I ordered a new one off Geekbuying. They take less than 2 weeks to arrive. While waiting I found an emergency boot image and fix it. So when the new one came I sold it.

Geekbuying R2450 with DHL and airmouse/keyboard remote
https://www.geekbuying.com/item/Bun...TV-BOX-ZIDOO-V6-Wireless-Keyboard-385895.html

or Gearbest R2300 with Aramex shipping and airmouse/keyboard remote
https://www.gearbest.com/tv-box-mini-pc/pp_626907.html

You must get an airmouse/keyboard remote.

Try finding someone who is ordering from one of these sites and get them to bundle it in to save shipping. Free shipping can be a nightmare as it goes through the post office and may never arrive after a 2 - 3 month waiting period. A new one will be sent but will take another 2 - 3 months to arrive or not. Rather take the chance of maybe having to pay a few 100 bucks vat/duty.

Thanks. Any idea on pricing on what the newer model you mentioned might come in at?

I have an MG582 from a few years ago and really love it. Need another media player for a second room. Is there a newer model of this available or can someone suggest something better. Needs SPMC preloaded. I rarely use it for anything else.
Thanks

Thanks... Pretty expensive, and might make me consider the Nvidia Shield instead

Yes it will cost, but I think the extra cost will be worth it for what you getting. Doesn't the Nvidia Shield cost R4-5K? So it's going to more, but you are getting quite a bit more functionality.

I also forgot the X9S can also be used as a wifi AP. The x20 should also have this.

My MXQ box has a Rockchip, and Netflix has stopped working for the last week or so. I don't have DSTV Now on there, so not sure about that. Netflix support has been less than helpful, just saying its not a supported box, and I have to buy something else. Anyone know if there's a relatively easy way of getting Netflix to work again on that box?

I was watching the cricket on both the LIT and the MiBox on DSTVnow ... and the picture seems better on the LIT ... I've tried both boxes on two different TVs. It is a bit better when I change the TV to 50fps rather than 60fps ... but I don't know if that is possible.

Just wondering what other peoples experiences are. Also, I watch the cricket on an IPTV service .. and it looks better than DSTV now ... granted, at much higher data usage because of the better quality stream .. but I can't up the stream quality on DSTV now.

Which IPTV service are you using?

Where the TV's identical?
