The Droid TV thread

I turned off wifi and disconnected it from my router, but each time it is on, my router looses sync. The files i am trying to play are on my local NAS using Upnp. i am on 1.1.6

Definitely haven't experienced anything like that. How does it connect to your router? Wifi or cable? Try the other way (wifi or cable) and see if it persists? Mine says on 24x7. Can you pm me and tell me more about the hd files? Send linky if they came from the web and I'll test one on mine.

What firmware are you running? I think it's in settings - about.

I wonder if there's something funky with your router or droid's wifi... should work fine. Are you in a position to connect the droid to your router with cable, even if it's temporary - to test? The movie issue could just be related to the wifi / router issue.
1.1.6 is pretty solid.

What security do you use on your wifi?

If you can tell me more about the file/s you're testing with - or even download something deliberately to test and send me the link so I can do the same this side and post my results, I'd be happy to help.

I connected the Droid to my router with a cable, same thing, wifi, same thing. wifi disabled, same thing. i have disconnected all devices connected to my Tv except the droidTV and my router is working properly. Only issue i cant figure out is this device not handling HD files. I am currently stream AMC on offsidestreams and its lagging. This doesnt happen when i use my laptop to stream.

Doesn't happen on my MX. Probably a faulty unit then. I'll test Offsidestream on XBMC over the weekend.

Hi digitalp,

Just to confirm, you struggle to play internet and local content when connected via LAN or Wireless?

Thanks

I struggle via both methods.

That shouldn't be happening with this box

Can you try a firmware reflash? Failing that, we'll send you a replacement unit which I'll test myself before shipping

http://matriserver.com/files/MX2/firmware/MX2-full-1.1.6-firmware-RC.zip

Firmware flashing instructions

- Unzip the contents to a Fat32 formatted SD card
- Turn off the MX box
- Insert SD Card with the firmware update on
- Push a toothpick into the AV slot at the back of the MX and press the reset button
- While holding down the reset button, power on the MX
- Wait 5 - 10 seconds and release the reset button

If successful, you should see the Android recovery image and progress bar

Should take about 3-4 minutes to flash

Will do and provide you feedback.

I think this unit is faulty. I reflashed with 1.1.6, no change, I also tried 1.1.7 and no luck.

Can you test it using an ADSL router or a MiFi etc.? I would first try to eliminate your VDSL router as several customers have reported issues with this device. See if you can find any similar behaviour amongst these reviews.

I agree with this. If you have another router to latch on to just to test, it might be a better idea than returning it only to find it's a compatibility issue with the router. Especially seeing as it's a Telkom marketed unit. I've not had much joy with their various models over the years starting at the old ADSL Marconis.

I have tested with another modem, still no luck. I even went to work and tested with our fibre connection, same thing, but I finally figured out that I only have lagging when playing HD files with XBMC only.

Awesome! Thanks Yotch and iaywtimnbe for your help and suggestions

So what caused this?

Very odd that installing new firmware didn't resolve the issue. Mine seems fine on the 1.1.7b firmware, though I admit I didn't test XBMC in the stock 1.1.6 firmware. That said, I'm not aware of any issues with it. The forum doesn't have anything on that AFAIK.

I suspect its the version of XBMC i was using. I was having issues with Frodo, i installed Gotham and the problem disappeared.

Interesting - I recall some updates to hardware rendering that may have affected the MX, so perhaps it uses the GPU where Frodo used the CPU more.
