The Droid TV thread

Hi Guys.

Firstly thanks to AVsupply for shipping out a replacement unit to me. As always, great customer support.

The box was finally delivered this morning and i am glad to report that everything including internet streaming etc is working 100%.
All the problems that i had before with network are gone. The unit is working 100% with me doing any tinkering.

Also thanks a lot to all you guys for giving advise and help with testing the previous box.

Regards
Iru

Hi guys. New to DroidTV. Still feeling my way around. Need help on xbmc please. Anyone know how to add videos kept on a couple of networked PS3s (ethernet & LAN) to the library? Know next to nothing about networking.

Hi Alex

The Wiki should help you - http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=XBMC_Quick_Start_Guide

Look at the "Adding videos to the library" section and add a SMB share in place of folder in step 4. After pressing OK you should see your network servers. Browse the one you want to add and select the folder that contains your content

XBMC works best if you seprerate TV-Shows, Movies, Music, Pictures, into their own folders

If you add a "Movies" folder, make the content type "Movies". If you add a "TV-Shows" folder, make the content type "TV-Shows".

Creating structured media folders and setting the correct content type will generate a nice media library

I tried to play a m2s clip from a Dolby test website to test the system but with XBMC get only sound no picture. If I choose movie player -works fine. Strange..

Thanks. Any prep required on the PS3s? Couldn't see them over the network (regardless of which option I tried in xbmc eg. upnp, etc)? Will try again tonight with your suggestion.

The video might be minimized in XBMC, check top right of the navigation bar and press the full screen button

Sorry Alex, I'm not familiar with PS3 and file sharing

Can anyone else help out?

Thanks

I'm putting together a rooted update that includes the old launcher
I'll post the link here when done

Was wondering if you had put your custom rooted 1.2 update together. Would like to try it. I am currently running vanilla 1.2 on one of your DroidTV MX boxes.

Two other movie apps that I find very useful on the DroidTV MX which could possibly replace both Netflix and Hulu Plus are Show Box and Video Mix (do not require XBMC). This video shows both of them in action - skip to 5:30 for the details.

Video Mix: http://www.thinstallsoft.com/videomix-app/

@Yotch, I've tried Show box but keep on getting "server error" messages, much like this youtube vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gqUolFO-2g

Hi mcclod

I'll try and upload something soon

@mcclod: I'm trying SB now and it does seem to be struggling a bit tonight. I am currently experiencing a lot of interruptions on the medium quality setting. Are you running the new 1.2 firmware currently?

I was watching the latest episode of Mistresses about an hour ago on www.usdrama.net and I was very impressed with the quality of the streaming. Give this a try in the meantime - just use the standard web browser that comes installed on the DroidTV to open the site and choose something to stream. If there is any stuttering just let it buffer for a few minutes. This site has around 600+ of the latest TV series in HD like GoT, TBBT, HIMYM etc.

@AVSupply - tried adding an SMB share under videos in xbmc and got this error : "Error 2: share not available". Any thoughts?

Hi Alex,

What do you keep all your digital content on, and is it accessible from other devices on your network?

Thanks

Have you tried from Mash Up in XBMC. I can see Discovery ID and Fox Crime towards the end of this Mash Up installation guide - not sure that FC is still working though.

This is the same iLive ID feed

This CI link does not appear to be showing the correct channel

I keep most of my movies & music on my laptop's HDD. But something seems to have shorted and buggered the laptop up when I tried to plug my new external HDD into it yesterday. It was past it's best before date anyway... Murphy's as I'd bought the ext HDD (my first) to back up important files from the laptop. Haha

I have a few more movies on my PS3's HDD so this is where I turned my attentions to yesterday after the laptop blew. Could always move the PS3's movies across to the ext hdd and then keep ext hdd plugged into DroidTV?

I was trying to test the m2s clips yesterday but it seemed as though the droid was having issues with the usb hard drive.
It seemed as though it could not power it consistently- it's a 2.5" drive.
I disconnected the drive and put it on my laptop and it worked ok.
Any thoughts? Could the droid not be powerful enough to power the drive sometimes?

A previous customer had multiple drives and a keyboard and mouse plugged in, and never had issues.

Can you try connecting your drive with a different cable? The shorter the better
