The Droid TV thread

Yotch at it since 5:30 this morning :o
:p

And on the subject of file sharing, you can do the opposite quite easily with Sambadroid (Access any folder on the DroidTV box from Windows). I turned mine into a NAS with Sambadroid.

No output on a/v again this morning. Might hook it upto panel later if I have a chance. Haven't used it in over a week. Irritated. Should just work.

appreciate some help again guys:

I'm having issues streaming HD movies from my laptop (wifi). SD Movies play ok but every few seconds an HD movies stops and buffers. Is this a wifi signal issue?
Also tried using Sambadroid but when I launch it, it scans and doesn't pick up my laptop although in XBMC it does?

@akescpt: Are you on 1.1.6 firmware? I have been using the A/V output exclusively on my DroidTV and haven't experienced this problem. It sounds as though the AV/CVBS setting has been switched off.

@silkman: Is your router running on 802.11g or n? How far away is the DroidTV from your router/PC? I think that you may run into problems streaming 1080p files via WiFi though. Have you tried to stream any 720p files?

I'll check later. But it's always plugged into a CRT. So not sure how the setting would change.

@akescpt: After fiddling with the video output settings on my unit it doesn't seem possible to switch it to HDMI mode unless it is connected to a suitable TV. The Auto Output mode button is also greyed out and appears to be off. Once or twice my unit has lost the 80% screen adjustment setting that I had set so I was thinking that something similar might have happened to yours.

yotch bro, 1st lemme thank you on behalf of all the people you help always!
I dunno what my router is running on.
720p files work ok.
The router and droid are next to each other.

@silkman: Are the Droid and the router connected using an ethernet cable or just wirelessly? You might be able to get slightly faster download speeds if only the PC is connected via WiFi and the Droid is connected via a cable to the router. You could also try to use SambaDroid as suggested by Arietans or the Samba app that comes preloaded. Apparently the streaming speed can vary quite a bit depending on the app being used.

Here are a few other locally available USB Y cables if you are getting desperate ...

You can get this from Sybaritic in Randburg if you already have a suitable mini USB to micro USB adapter ...

@akescpt: How are you shutting down your machine after use? Were you using XBMC the last time it was working? Apparently you are supposed to press that OFF button in XBMC in the lower left of the screen before leaving the app to prevent the firmware from getting accidentally corrupted if the app is left running in the background when powering off the unit.

If you don't see any video when you connect the HDMI cable the firmware might have been corrupted. In that case you may need to reinstall it from an SD card. Just speak to AVSupply before you attempt this as he might have a better idea.

I use xbmc mostly. Thanx for the heads up! Avsupply did the setup for me! Gonna have to figure this out.

The droid is connected via cable, the pc is wireless.
I just cannot get samba to work- it scans but doesn't find my network?

What software are you using to connect to your PC? Is this in XBMC?
What OS is on your PC?
You might have opted to not make your PC visible on your home network. If you go into network and connection settings on your PC, what type of network does it show for your home LAN? Is it home, work or public network?
How have you shared the folder/s on your PC - are you using simple file sharing or advanced?

@silkman: I have only done very basic file sharing (no usernames, passwords etc.) as described in the guide but when I open the preinstalled Samba app it usually detects the shared folders. I see something like //192.168.1.101/Users in the Device List. Have you tried clicking on the List icon next to the Home button several times to rescan. I have tried in both Win XP and 7 and in both cases I am able to see the shares. Try to access the shared folder in XBMC first and then close XBMC properly using the round button on the lower left side of the screen and then try to open the Samba app. It can be a little temperamental sometimes. Just close it after a few attempts and try again a few times later to see if something doesn't appear. You could also try to enter the IP address of your PC (check from the command prompt - c:\windows\system32\ipconfig). I have even seen it list //192.168.1.100/sdcard which is currently not installed.

The strange thing is the problem is only with Samba- I can access all shared folders from xbmc.
I have windows 8 on my laptop.

I haven't tried shutting down xbmc yet.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words! Just returning a few favours for the all the benefits, assistance and advice that I have received over the years. I even won a prize in the weekly MyBB competition last week and I usually never win anything :).

It's really great to see that our local DroidTV community is expanding as I am sure that this will help to grow IPTV, VDSL and FTTH in the future.

EDIT: @silkman: Have you tried to scan for your file shares using X-Plore File Manager or ES File Explorer. You should be able to launch the video files using the Droid's bundled video/movie player from these apps. Both of these apps can automatically find my shares. X-PloreFM (LAN, Add Server, Scan), ESFE (Network, LAN, Scan) etc.
