It's mostly plug & play as I've taken the hard work out of configuring

If you want to get into IPTV, my only suggestion is to get a 3rd party remote with keyboard, which makes searching for episodes and movies easier

Correction, it IS plug and play.

The confusing bit for most is nothing more than the fact that it's customizable to the n'th degree if you are so inclined. That's what makes this box unique. It's also way easier to customize than, say, appleTV... but if you're not technically inclined, then don't customize, just use as is.

@Icemanbrfc: The MXIII is preconfigured and ready for use when it arrives. If you have purchased an air mouse then you need to plug the small RF transmitter into the MXIII. Then connect the HDMI cable and the power brick and turn it on. There is no additional software installation required.

The browser and YouTube are all working as soon as the machine boots. You need to add your passwords to sign into Netflix and Hulu Plus. XBMC also works straight out of the box. If you want to add anything extra then you can download a few apps from the Google Play store. It should be completely functional without adding any additional software when it arrives.

I must say that I have been very impressed with mine. The new firmware really looks great and functions very well.

The KitKat release has really Supercharged the Q7's interface, but XBMC development is a little slower on the Rockchip chipset. For a wireless only network, the Q7 is the better option with its external WiFi antenna. Do you plan on streaming SD or HD content?

If you prefer the look of the MXIII, the 1GB version without Bluetooth is R1200, and the 2GB with Bluetooth is R1500. Both MXIIIs have 8GB storage

We'll have the 2GB version on Monday but will only ship them on Tuesday after upgrading the firmare and running a few tests

At the moment only streaming SD content. What is the advantage of having Bluetooth and 2gb ram on the MXIII if just using it to purely stream my content from my micro server?

I have read that the extra Ram helps if you are using the unit to play games. I don't think that you will notice it when streaming though. Bluetooth might be useful if you want to attach a gaming controller/external keyboard or a bluetooth speaker.

There are two version for MXIII, 1GB and 2GB RAM version.

The 1GB ones use the Realtek RTL8188etv WIFI module, don’t support bluetooth. You can download the firmware here

The 2GB ones use the broadcom AP6330 wifi module, support dual-band wifi and bluetooth, you can download the firmware here

Download SambaDroid from google play and share your external HDD. You will then be able to map the network drive on your PC and move your media over.

Awesome, this app is by far the easiest and works great. My next question would be, how would I get the drives / file share to share automatically after a boot or reboot?

I don't have experience with the m8, but my mx 2 plays all my mkv files without any problems. No matter the size or bit rate.
How do you access the files ? Via wifi, ethernet or usb ?

@Barfish88: Are you possibly trying to stream large 1080p mkv files via single band WiFi? You might have buffering problems doing that on most devices.

If you really want to test out the mkv performance see if you can stream this 120Mbps jellyfish mkv file (second from the bottom) via a flash drive etc.

I only had this problem via wifi...but most of these boxes have poor wifi reception.

@Phrozin: Have you considered using a WiFi bridge on the ethernet port? You might be able to configure a wireless router to do the job. I don't think that you need to install any driver software or do any other mods.

Hi Guys thanks for the answers. I got the buffering sorted out, but now its freezing while playing mkvs.

I am using it via gigabit ethernet connection (i know the m8 only is 100mb port).

I have loaded all my network shares under windows network (smb).

Does the picture freeze and you hear sound, or does it completely lock up? If it does lock up, what happens when you press the home button the remote?

@Barfish88: I assume that the same files play properly off both a USB flash drive and via WiFi which would suggest that its either some kind of network hardware incompatibility or the ethernet connection on the M8? Can you stream online content from XBMC or Hulu without any freezing?
