The Droid TV thread

HELP!!! I need help

Issue 1:

Netflix refuses to stream properly on the MXQ. It goes for a couple of minutes, then buffers for a minute, streams for a minute and so on. I am using the DNS from jasheed_sa. On my "pc computer" :D Netflix streams without any buffering in HD. On the droid YouTube flawlessly streams in HD. All of the other streams I tried on the MXQ worked without issue. I tried with the pre-installed Netflix and version 3.8.3 What now?

Issue 2:

Hulu - It gives me that stupid date and time error, I think it was discussed on here before?

Issue 3:

@Yotch, how do I get shush.se working, looks like it needs flash? Everywhere I looked, people said that flash on kitkat is a bad idea?

Sorry for all the questions :o

@heartbroken: I'm not exactly sure what the problem is with your Netflix on the MXQ. I haven't experienced this on the MXIII.

You can't use the jsheed_sa DNS to stream Hulu or Hulu Plus on android. Try one of the other free DNS services that I sent you.

I stream shush using the Dolphin browser with a patched version of flash installed. On the MXIII I need to turn on the Status Bar - Settings > Display menu > Hide Status Bar > OFF to prevent browser closes when in full-screen mode.

Ah I see, will swop over to the other DNS tonight and give it a bash. Thank you.

I am rather disappointed with the Netflix at the moment, that was the whole reason for getting the droid. Hopefully I can get it sorted, otherwise I suppose I will just get a roku for my parents and keep the droid as a toy for myself.

was it ever in doubt? :D

@heartbroken: The S805 is a very new device so there might still be a few issues that need to be fixed. The S802 has been available since the beginning of the year so most of the problems have already been resolved.

I also use this Time4popcorn torrent service on the MXIII. I am not sure that it will work on the MXQ but it might be worth a try. I need to turn off all graphics hardware acceleration in the Settings menu. I have also moved the cache file onto a flash drive to reduce wear on the internal flash. It may take a few minutes to start but it will create a very large buffer and create a copy of the video during playback. I often use this to watch the latest comedies like Big Bang Theory etc. If the torrents are not well seeded some movies may not start.

Don't worry, it will get sorted! How long ago did you buy it? Just want to make sure you running the latest version, as v2 added improvements to networking buffers. Do you see an Android figure on the right side of the launcher?

Thanks

It got delivered yesterday, but I am not sure which version will have to check.

Otherwise I can flash and update the whole thing, I don't have many settings on there yet.

Funny thing is that everything else streams without buffering, even YouTube on 720 without a hitch.

No buffering at all in your appy. Most streams open almost instantly, one or two takes about 30s to get going, but they never buffer.

FYI: I am running on a 8mb capped connection with a 3G failover.

Hi heartbroken

I don't use Netflix or Hulu so can't give any suggestions

But don't worry, JvanD and Yotch are very knowledgeable and should be able to assist :)

@AvSupply What is the build on the rom & kernel shipped on the MXQ S805? I found that some of the Beelink stock roms perform better on Netflix. Also if 24hz is selected Netflix seems to be better as it doesn't suffer from jerky playback. Its could be still there but less. One can also change the networking buffering. Also what is this box spoofed as?

@heartbroken If you watch Netflix for a few minutes the jerkiness also goes away, I also was initially not impressed, but manged to sort it out - leave the box playing an episode of anything and let us know if it gets better with the 24 hz option selected where you setup your video display settings in MBox settings. Leave Netflix playing for about 10 minutes or so to establish if its slightly better.

Also try to disable the hardware decoding option in developer options. As Yotch said that the S805 is really new so it might need some work or another rom and or kernel to see if it alleviates your problem. I am busy check for you.

You can download the Adobe flash apk file & Dolphin browser to watch flash enabled videos - see below for the URL

Busy checking up on the Hulu errors that you are experiencing - is your date and time settings setup correct?

It's 108k4 (same as 109k4 for the MXIII)

Spoofed as Nexus 10
