The Droid TV thread

Question.
Can I start XBMC automatically on startup? I tried this App called startup manager or something but I couldn't put a tick/enable it for XBMC. What gives?

Also, Can anyone please link me to PROPER remotes that work on the MX III?

I need something with:
- an info (i) button.
- a play button.
- a stop button.
- a pause button.

- Something that recognizes when you HOLD in right, it SCROLLS right in XBMC.
- Not so fscking noisy.

Bonus: compatible with MXIII and doesn't need an additional IR-thing plugged into the second USB port (is this possible?)

Please help! :(

Get a fire tv. Works well with DSTV now, supersport and a remote friendly version of TVPlayer and iPlayer.

Hi
Mind sharing a link to the dstv now app. I've managed to sideload super sport and it works well but can't seem to get the dstv now app.
Thanks
Regards

MX3 remote from avsupply is great.
You can program every button on the unit to do what you want it to do (unofficially - I think it's mentioned in the OP).
It has full keyboard and airmouse as well.

There are other apps for auto starting things... have you tried taskbomb? Check my opening post for instructions on using taskbomb - I think there's a link to how I use it to auto start tTorrent and reboot.

I recall there was a way to set xbmc up as the main launcher... look here:

So I've made progress with unrooting the box after lots of research and experimenting. Unroot can be achieved via the following method and in this order:

Install Root Browser from the Play Store
Browse to /system/xbin/ and delete busybox
Browse to /system/app/ and delete Superuser.apk (this step is not necessary if using Mediaman's custom rom)
Browse to /system/bin/ and delete su
Reboot

The box will now be unrooted.

I am still not able to get past DSTV Now's "this device is registered to another user error" and I think this may be based on the bootloader reflecting as "unknown" which possibly means "unlocked"?. I have been testing recently on Mediaman's (Avsupply) latest custom rom and am not sure if I will have the same problem with the stock rom. Is there a way to return the bootloader to a stock and unmodified state or is this just how the box comes from the factory? I think this may be the final hurdle to overcome to use apps like DSTV Now and Sky Go as the various root checker apps are all showing the box is not rooted and the only thing I could think of was the bootloader status.

I believe they started adding root from 108k4 onwards. Try the 107k4 firmware

Thanks, does the firmware affect the bootloader though? The challenge also would be how to gain the enhancements made from 107k4 to 110k4 without introducing root?

The firmware includes the kernel and boot image. If 107k4 works, we can try port those changes to the latest release

I'm pretty knowledgeable when it comes to both Linux and Android but I cannot for the life of me connect XBMC on this box to samba shares on my Linux Server (Ubuntu Server 14.04).

Windows, Linux and Android machines (via Astro) can all browse to these shares so I know they are functional, but in XBMC browsing network filesystem shows nothing and and I had no luck with directly entering the path (NFS://...).

Anyone managed to get a similar setup working?

Are you trying to access a samba or NFS share? You should put smb:// for samba

My box is connected to an Ubuntu 14.4 server, and I have no problems accessing the share when "Browsing" the network. What happens after you browse for a share?

Nothing - returns an empty list. Astro File manager on the other hand can see the shares just fine.

I'll try smb:// tonight and maybe also try set up some NFS shares (hear its better for linux-->linux anyway)

Thanks for the help

Ok cool, mapped 1,2 & 3 to: Info, Play/Pause, Stop.

Got XBMC to start up automatically, but it took like 30 seconds after the Android menu was shown... so I removed it, because that's just too slow, and would be confusing if XBMC suddenly starts up while someone is still navigating the main menu.

Try replacing the launcher with XBMC...

Meh, it's ok. Box is already wrapped up.

I like the android menu, it's cool to have a browser/email/etc - I just wanted XBMC to start up by default, and when you press home it goes back to the android menu, if you wanted to use those android apps/functions.

If it was my own device, I probably would make it XBMC only.

Aah, gotcha - ja, rather give them a link to XBMC IMO.
