The Droid TV thread

Just installed the brand-new Kodi 14 "Helix" on my DroidTV MX-III.

No problems until it came to playing media: totally broken :(
In most cases it would switch back-and-forth between 00:00:00 and 00:00:01 with the video effectively frozen. Other times it would be extremely choppy or play at x2 speed with no audio. I tried out different codecs, played around with various display and audio settings, rebuild libraries, cleaned caches, reinstalled, etc. all to no avail.

I've rolled back to 13.2 and things are back to normal.

Guess I'll have to wait for 14.1 to come around :(

How do I prevent the box from going into a deep sleep where the only way to wake it is to press the power button?

I've basically had to disable es file explorer. Every time I plug in a hard drive, it brings up es. Annoying. Any ideas how to change that

Thanks for the advise on Cbeebies guys.... Now i am trying to find a way to add a direct shortcut to it in SubMenu

Yeah. ICASA sucks. PS ... can be fined R250K for each device sold that is not ICASA certified. I've had one item certified before. It was a nightmare.

BTW. Any Kodi 14 firmware in the pipeline for MXII?

Glad to have your confirmation. Hasn't been easy this end. About to re-install xbmc again here. Just not working as I'd hoped. Everyone makes it sound so awesome. Yet....

There again, it's probably user error

I tend to agree with you that everyone raves about the MX unit but actually it is not as reliable and user friendly, not to mention that when you factor in the gyro mouse it becomes a pretty expensive box.

I think the most stable android box is probably the Amazon fire tv which is a lot more polished, has a functional remote and can have xbmc and other apps sideloaded. Sure the box is tailored for Amazon Prime but I think that is a minor issue. The fire tv is currently going for $79 and the fire tv stick for $39. If you looking for the most family friendly and well supported streamer then Roku is definitely the way to go.

I'm new to this and it continues to be a steep learning curve for me .

Have enjoyed the most remarkable patience and support from Jacques and the good folk here throughout. My level of tech incompetence wouldn't have found a home elsewhere.

I have no regrets as I'll be able to make an informed decision if I ever replace it (and that may still be at AV).

Have you tried it yet? What's new?
Hoping for a new custom rom from Jacque. ☺

I would not touch roku ever again. Support is absolute crap.
Mine stopped working and now can't be fixed.
Just like that one day not coming on.
They won't even assist. I must buy a new one

^^
hopefully could just be the power supply and not the unit itself.
