Tried to downlaod XBMC skins, but it just would download. Is there a way to download skins, drop onto an SD card and install that way?

Theres more support for the MXIII available.
Yes i agree. That's my initial thought as well...
Lets see what others have to say..
Guys how plug n play is this thing???
Got an uncle who wants something simple to use that he can plug in a flash drive and play music. simple stuff hes not a techy

True, some of us are technically challengedLove the avatar ... Orko?
No it's not plug and play ... Get a Roku or WDTV live or similar device.
This in essence is a mini pc with some setup involved and fine tuning.
People differ technically so we can't deny this![]()

I cannot get into recovery mode to flash the new rom.
I tried the reboot to recovery from the power menu. It gets to the boot logo, the screen goes black for a second and it reboots.
Tried the tooth pick method with the same result. I must have tried over 50 times.
I then tried with the USB burn tool and the 111k4 image. It detects the device starts to flash and then fails after reaching 3%. I re-download the file from a different source with the same result.
I then tried to flash the factory 108k4 version with the USB tool and this worked, however I still cannot get into recovery using any method. Even reformatting my sd card didn't work. I tried a few recovery apps from the play store without success.
Please give me some ideas.

Oh no. Could this not have been simpler for those not familiar with flashing Roms? Like an OTA update?
Another reason is you can check the MD5 to make sure the downloaded file is ok.Maybe, but even the so called leading branded companies in the business can get it wrong sometimes. I see it all the time in IT where companies destroy user experience and cause downtime due to services similar to OTA deployed software updates etc.
The other reason for non OTA IMHO is because a lot of "fake" or rather cloned devices can benefit from the firmware provided if the hardware is compatible. It's not great if you are building a brand name and a cheaper competitor product comes along and snatches your work, that's just shameless.

Hi JvanDGoto the Mbox settings app, click other, system update
Under UpdateLocale select the upgrade file on your SD card.
Ensure, wipe data, wipe media are selected.
Click update and try again, follow the prompts.
Unplug your ethernet if plugged in and USB devices.
After the flash ...
If the new app installer progress bar freezes, restart the MXIII, it will finish on the 2nd attempt.
Some tips:
1. Don't use a conductive pin in the AV hole, get the sequence right if using the pin hole method.
2. Make sure your SD card is formatted FAT32 and a primary partition.
3. Use a different SD card.
4. Use this app to partition and format the SD Card.

Now go on, a custom 111K4 is waiting for you
PS: 11K4 has no recovery, it either uses the recovery on the SD card or the NAND on the box. Get the SD card right and you are good to go.
Hi JvanD
Thank you for the instructions. Unfortunately it didn't work![]()
The same thing happens, the Google TV logo comes up then the screen goes black for about a second (I assume this is when it's trying to run the recovery file), and it just reboots.
Do you know which file from the rom executes the recovery?
I'm going to buy a class 10 SD card today and try again. Im currently using a class 4.
So I copied the file to an SD card and placed it in my MX3.
Unfortunately the MX3 did not see the the SD card at all. In fact its now stuck inside the MX3.
Anyone ever experienced this and got it out again? I don't want to open the device (unless its easy) but I don't want "lose" my 32Gb SD card either!
