The Droid TV thread

@silkman Are you not using a powered external USB hard drive? If that's the problem I agree with the guys ... I bought a powered enclosure for 250 bucks as I had problems with non powered USB drives that sporadically loses the hard drive, spinning up and down and freezing the unit when I watch content. This was one of the best moves I made, thinking back and spared me lots of frustration.

um im the other way around though strangely enough pal. My powered drive i lose sporadically, but my 2.5 inch self powered i have no issues with holding. im getting buffering issues with my powered drive, but not sure if my drive is failing me or what

Running MxLinux on my DroidTV ATV400 - where/what do I do to enable the onboard wifi?

Definitely sounds like a drive, enclosure or enclosure PSU issue.

I've got a weird issue the past few days when I try to watch a movie
when I try to watch a movie from XBMC the picture displays zoomed and off center. Is like the movie is divided into four quarters and you are watching the first quadrant.
I need to restart the machine a couple of times before it plays correctly.
This is a new issue- what is causing this?

Silkman, I have the same problem, ever since I updated my MX2 to 1.2.2 beta . changing resolution doesnt help

Yip-tried changing the resolution yesterday and it doesn't help. I haven't upgraded anything - unless it autoupdates (I don't know).
How can we solve this?

Is your TV HD-Ready? I had this with my bedroom TV. I found that if I forced 1080p 50Hz, the zoom stopped. What was weird was that the XBMC interface was perfect, but the video was funny.

Similar issue as here:
http://probox2.com/forum/discussion/27/resolved-video-zoomed-and-off-center

Full HD Projector and setup- never had this problem before- only the past few weeks.

Try d4zza's suggestion and force the resolution to 1080p/60 (Remove Auto Detect)

So yesterday I go and see if I can change the resolution to 1080p/60.
Now there's no option to change the display at all- see pic below:
mx2pic.jpg

There's just a blank space under the "Display Resolution" option.
I tried ticking and unticking it, tried changing auto detect resolution and unticking that- no luck.
Got frustrated and gave up.
This morning, I thought I'd give it a shot again- now there's no picture AT ALL.
The blue light of the Mx 2 is on , the cables are fine (tested with DSTV) but no picture at all from the Mx2.

Thanks for trying to help j but this unit has been giving me trouble for a long time
(not detecting USB drives of different brands, working with another power supply for a while then not working and now this)
I don't know what else to do.

Thanks for always trying to help J but I am at my wits end.

I don't know what else to do.

Unplug the power, insert a toothpick or match into the AV hole at the back, apply power and wait 15 seconds. When you see the recovery console, choose the option to format cache, then reboot

Ok bro here's where I am with my unit:

Tried the toothpick method. It rebooted and the options for display were available again.
If I turn the unit off after that, it sometimes doesn't switch on at all. It may show a picture every 3-4 times even though the blue light is on (it's not the cable as the cable works fine with DSTV and the same thing happens with other cables).
When it did stay on, I wanted to test my HDD as I bought a powered USB hub ( http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/161410956/USB_2_0_Powered_Hub_4_Port_USB_Hub.html as you suggested.
The unit does not recognize the hdd from the hub. The hub is working fine as I tested it.

Besides the new issue of not staying powered on and not being able able to watch movies because of the display resolution issues, so far to get the unit to recognize my HDD, I have:

- reinstalled firmware twice
- reinstalled XBMC twice.
-Purchased different usb cables, including Y- cables
- tried different hard drives of different brands
- tried 3 different power supplies
- purchased a powered usb hub

And nothing seems to resolve the problem. I've spent about R350 on the additional cables, hub etc which did not solve the issue.
I appreciate your assistance over these months trying to solve the issue but surely after all these attempts the unit can be replaced?

Do you use any of the available Android apps, or is the MX only used for XBMC?

If it's only for XBMC, let's convert you to the Linux version, or load the 1.1.6 firmware that it shipped with

I use other apps- I've loaded the 1.16 before and that didn't help.

Do you not think after all things I've tried the unit should be replaced?
I've tried bro- 3 firmware version, different cables, different hard drives, power supplies, usb hubs !
I do think after all that and 5 months of not winning the unit should be replaced.
I don't think that's an unreasonable expectation.

Do you have the same issue when removing the 1x2 HDMI switch from the setup?

And what happens when you test with the projector only?

Thanks

Yes, the same issue when I removed the HDMI switch- you suggested I do that before.
Had the projector installer come in and test with his mede8r and its works 100% with and without the HDMI switch.

If you guys feel I am being unreasonable for expecting a replacement unit after all this, please tell me.
I have placed this posting on other forums to get a feel of what other guys would do in my situation and as of now every single reply has been that the unit should've been replaced.

I am comfortable that I have done more than what is reasonable to get the unit working.
Bottom line is that it doesn't work as advertised and your supplier should credit you as well. It's just a faulty unit dude.

Hi silkman

We need to go through the motion and eliminate all possibilities before deciding it's the hardware. Your setup is different to everyone elses, so I need to make sure there is nothing obvious causing all your headaches.

Please email me at [email protected] to get this resolved

Thanks

Please advise what I should include in the email- but honestly after 5 months do you not think that we have been through enough?
We've been through my setup before viz: Projector, AV Receiver, Media player. The HDMI split was removed in December and I haven't used it since. The MX2 is connected directly to the AVR.
The setup is not the issue- you previouly suggested connecting the mx2 directly to my other tv WITHOUT projectors, splits- just the mx2 directly to the tv- the issues still were not resolved.
The TV,projector, AVR, USB hubs, power supplies, cables and hard drives are all working fine.
That leaves the unit!
Would you not expect something to be replaced after all this?
Seriously bro after all this you say I should go back to the firmware what came with the unit - something that didn't work in the first place. We going around in circles.
I have been very patient and I know you have tried to help but I need to know how long we going to continue trying this and that, buying cables, plugs and hubs. Please bear in mind that trying these suggestions has cost me hundred of rands already.
At what point do you replace the unit?
