The Droid TV thread

Hi AVSupply, absolutely loving the MG582.

Now firmware, will your updates come OTA or is there somewhere I need to go to keep updated?

Also, I've no idea if this is a stupid question, is lollipop a possibility?

Hi ScottulusMaximus

Glad to hear you are enjoying your DroidTV media player

OTA is something I've been meaning to get working on the MG582, but haven't had time to figure out how to do it

For now, please check here every few months, or send me a pm and I'll let you know if there have been any worthy updates

A word of thanks to Jacque and Tracy at AVSupply. Jacque heard of my unfortunate luck where I was robbed and my Android box of choice got damaged. He sent me a replacement Android box out of the blue for free - I told him he was mad but nevertheless if got my baby back ... You don't get that kind of support from Takealot or any other company that I have dealt with, the normal warranties do not cover this kind of event. I highly recommend AVSupply once again to anyone out there that wants to buy an Android media box. You just don't get this type of service anywhere.

Well done avsupply!! I made my 1st purchase from you yesterday (my 2nd droid tv box) and I'm glad to see a nice human touch to business. What a refreshing approach.

Finally got the MySQL database working correctly and the MG582 linked to it (scanning the database from scratch takes a very long time). Great little device to extend your viewing experience. Will try the DSTV Now app tonight and see if it still works. Have not done any updates to it since purchased it in April and could not get MySQL working.

Greetings,

I need some opinions. Firstly, I have no clue on TV boxes at all but a good work mate decided that I need one of these and his has ordered this: Android TV Box MX 2

Will it work in SA? What can I do with the blerry thing (besides give it to one of you :p )

A "DroidTV Box" is an Android Media Player that attaches to your TV and makes it smart. Most DroidTV boxes come pre-loaded with Kodi, Youtube, a web browser, google play store, and a number of other useful apps. To get the best experience out of your box, a 3rd party gyroscopic mouse is required (think Nintendo wii controller)

Regarding the box you bought off Ebay, it will work here but you will probably need a UK to SA plug converter for the power supply

The MX2 is an older box so Android firmware updates might be difficult to find

Looks like my box is dead in the water. The warrantly claim I can't do via you, can I? I must go back to Takealot?

You need to send it back to Takealot

Let me know if you have any issues?

Yeah it will work in SA Just get right converters for the power adapter.
That's dual core afaik but it's a cool little player with 2 CPUs.
It came out a few years back already.

Let us know if you have any questions ... njoy

Sweet thanks for the reply. I'll be sure to post here once I get it (it will take a while though).

My DSTV now works again - dunno how but it does.

What's the chances that the first guy who registered dstv now on these boxes has deregistered? Has there been an update on the app maybe? I assume the firmware hasn't been updated so they couldn't have fixed the cloned device id?

Just bought a Rii i25 remote for my MG582, works well but one issue:

It's direction arrows and OK button on the Rii are IR only, the MG582's are RF only... Anyone got a droidTV IR remote I can use to program my i25?

Based in Melville JHB

The MG582 stock remote is Infra-Red only. Are you saying the direction buttons on your i25 don't work when the USB dongle is plugged into the MG582?

Jvan is always rocking the latest firmware version, which might have enabled the DSTV app to work on his MyGica player

The only button that emits IR on the stock remote is the power button(check with your phone camera)... I need a droidTV remote that emits IR for it's direction and OK buttons so I can program the i25 with it's learning mode.

That means you've put your MG582 remote into "TV" Mode. Press the TV button again and all the other buttons should work
