The Droid TV thread

Hahaha yeh, just been fighting with SPMC 1st. Plus Jaque is like a bat these days. Only comes out at night lol

Any one else's MG582 freak out when they turn the unit off while still in Kodi? When turning it back on the TV does really strange things and remote stops working. Only way to fix it is to pull power and reset...

Hey ScottulusMaximus

Are you still on the firmware your box shipped with?

Lmao, you don't have to hide lol. You can whatsapp me and tell me on that request I asked you about :)

Mine does the same. Also still on the original firmware the device shipped with.

Why leave it in XBMC / Kodi to begin with? Just curious ... force of habit? I exit my apps then shut it down

Yeah I get that ... here is the thing ... the newer Kodi's have an automatic frame rate switching and synch to display enabled.
I think when the box is powered down in Kodi and starts up again it might know how to handle to 50h or 60hz from the TV and goes blank or experience a handshake issue. Don't know if it's by design but all my boxes suffer from this issue from different vendors ... I'll play with it and let you know if it's perhaps by design or an issue

I think you have hit the nail on the head, it seems to be related to the framerate sync features... TV detects 24Hz but KODI's menu's seem to push 60 and everything goes mad.

As a side note what's the best settings to use for this, my TV supposedly supports 24Hz and most of my media is at this but all the settings I've tried push 60Hz and drop frames.

EDIT: gonna try playing something at 24 and switching TV off and on again to see if it picks it up
EDIT EDIT: ya the TV doesn't like that

Why don't you try the new SPMC? It's built into it, so no need for setup and I don't see any noticeable skips or frame drops. Not enough to discourage me anyway.

LG 60" screen so if it is happening and I don't notice, I'm getting retarded, lol. It ain't perfect, here and there a frame droo but it's neat. Here is a screen shot of the activity on the new SPMC ... MKV file running for an hour - 1 skip ... that ain't bad IMHO. I am full of crap when it comes to this but it also depends on the codecs used and the firmware and who encoded the stuff. Lots of variables .... also where you playing from? NAS, HDD, PC that kinda thing

On Kodi I think it's set under accerlation ... ImageUploadedByTapatalk1438096779.578898.jpg Ensure that Adjust display refresh rate is set to "On start /stop" Don't do Kodi really - just SPMC as it just looks waaaaayyyy better.

There has been more development on the AML video codecs which is responsible for the rendering of the video - things can only get better IMHO.

EDIT: Try the new SPMC and let us know how she blows

Sounds nerdish that lol ;)

BTW how is SPMC better than Kodi Jvan? It looks the bloody same lol so I've gone back to Kodi as SPMC was giving me issues. Maybe I should try the new SPMC as well. What is the new version 15.xxx?

SPMC has been tweaked for certain Android devices. Less overhead and I just dig it more and playback seems better IMHO. And no fiddeling with automatic frame rate switching

All the settings I've tried drop 100's of frames over the course of an episode whether it's adjust framerate to display or adjust display to framerate. I think my POS TV doesn't help though as it only detects and sets framerate when it starts, switching it on while something is playing causes it to detect 30Hz and go mad.

Also I read somewhere that the "adjust media to display rate" has no effect as Android can't read video clocks or something so this feature was supposed to be removed in the Android builds.

Another issue I've also noticed is that my FPS(as shown by the "o" screen) is fluctuating a lot.

I'm playing via wifi from my PC through SMB, although I doubt this could be a network throughput issue as it happens no matter the quality I'm playing from 1Mb/s to 10Mb/s and cache stays at 99%.

Thats no good - try plugging in a external hard drive into the unit and see if it persists. Which TV do you have and also are you set to auto resolution in the Mbox settings? Did you load the new SPMC yet to see if it makes a difference on your end? I just ethernet and local hard drive my side - works best for me.

Seems the auto resolution might not be playing nice actually, if I force it to 24hz there's no skipped frames so I don't think Kodi is changing the framerate when the box is set to auto-resolution under main settings.

Ya confirmed, seems Kodi is not auto-setting the framerate when you start a video

SPMC is a load of bunkums ;) kept crashing on me, so reverted back to Kodi 14. Whatever lol but to be fair to SPMC, I was down to 23mb of storage, and my memory was really really low.

Also apart from Kodi/SPMC , I only have YouTube, and Mobdro as my only apps installed. I disabled and uninstalled so many apps to free up space and memory, but jeez it was a lag fest.

For the life of me I just don't know what is using so much memory, but at a guess its either the OS or Kodi. Kodi takes up more than a Gig of storage , and that's not good. Think I'm going to have to get an SD card. Would I be able to move Kodi/SPMC to SD?
