The Droid TV thread

I've only watched some of the old free kyknet stuff and it streams well on my 4MB FNB Connect uncapped account via WiFi.

Haven't signed up for the 7 day trial so I cannot comment on how it streams HD.
Thanks bud

I see takealot has a mygica atv 585 and 582.

Whats the big difference? Which one would you guys suggest?

Any comment on the above?

I dont have a picture I only get sound coming though :( any ideas.

Yes, it's DRM software related to your device( don't now what you have) , but here is my experience on my Droid M8-2gb:

1. All worked fine, except that when it started streaming there was only sound and no video(black screen).
2. After several emails to them(they responded quite fast,even after hours) they informed me that their android app doesn't support set-top boxes yet because "the Widevine plug in on Android app only supports mobile devices"
3. That got me thinking and thanks to member:"Ichijoe" here, he mentioned on my Netflix post about enabling the "Widevine plugin". (Do not try this if you don't now what your'e doing and you have to be rooted) = The Widevine plugin on Android facilitates the DRM management and can be edited in build.prop.
4.1. You have to edit the build.prop file(Location: /system/build.prop):
media.amplayer.widevineenable=false

to...

media.amplayer.widevineenable=true

4.2.I then rebooted so that settings can take and started to play a stream again. To my surprise it worked quite well with no stutters, everything in sync and I have video now.
5. There was however a problem every few seconds the blue ring in middle(buffer circle) appeared for a few seconds, though stream played without stutters.
6. I tried racking my brain for answers and thought that it could be the internal stream player, in this case "Stagefright" from Google that doesn't buffer correctly. It does play well over mobile phone, no spinning circle every few seconds. Or it could be due to their adaptive streaming quality control.
7. I then thought, nothing to loose and flashed another rom I had, Finless Bob's 1.8 Rom and then all was working 100% from Netflix to Showmax and XBMC

Hope it helps

I think you might have stumbled onto the problem many android boxes have with not being able to run dstv now. To date the only box I know of that runs dstv now without issues is the Mygica atv582 which I now have. Going to test this as soon as I can on my brother's minix.

Still same error device already registered or something :(

On the mygica 582 will I be able to use the dstv now app? What shows can you watch on the app?

Hi guys. Im new to this so decided to come ask here for advice. Cash is low so I dont have much for choice. For r800 I can get either a neo x7 mini or a mxq sminixmxqWhich one would be beter?

The neo has double the amount of ram ,but runs an older gpu compared to MXQ.

The MXQ comes pre loaded with KODI ,not sure if neo x7 mini has it loaded. Kodi is really awesome and a must have for media players.

Some feedback regarding the Showmax app on Android - it's in SD ... even after taking the 7 day free trail. Is it really SD or a lower form of it ... can't tell

Hi guys

So I got received my mygica atv582 today, set it up and installed dstv now and showmax.

The dstv now app tells me the device is not supported and I cant stream anything, why would this be as I was under the impression that this device can be used with dstv now?

The showmax app has audio but no display, I did read about changing something in this thread but I dont know if it is rooted or not, is there a work around for this?

Thanks
