The Droid TV thread

Guys please explain this to me,
The droidTV I got, streams movies on my network and its always stuttering using KODI
If I plug in the lan cable - its 100% perfect.
The distance is not even that far.

Now if I use wireless on my PC which is how I connect to the lan and the net everything is perfect including streaming

Only thing I can think of is the power of the wireless on the droidtv is not good at all.
Surely there is a way to fix this?

What firmware version are you running? Wireless is "supposed" to improve with every release. The latest is 115k4

Amlogic S905 vs Rockchip RK3368 Benchmarks Comparison

Overall both platforms are pretty close for most tests, and results will vary a little between devices due to firmware optimizations and different memory and storage chips… Nevertheless, it’s no surprise that an octa core Cortex A53 processor beats an quad core Cortex A53 processor in Antutu multi-threaded tests, but somehow K1 Plus was better than Beelink i68 at multi-tasking, and had an higher score in Vellamo’s multicore benchmark… Considering S905 is clocked at 2.02 GHz (CPU-Z data) against 1.2Ghz for RK3368 I was expecting a much faster single thread performance, but in Antutu single thread performance S905 was barely faster.

3D graphics benchmarks are also at adds with Antutu showing much better 3D performance for PoverVR G6110 GPU found in RK3368 against the penta-core Mali-450MP GPU in S905, while 3Dmark Ice Storm Extreme total score was basically a draw, but looking into the details of graphics and physics scores show disparities with the GPUs having their own strength and weaknesses.

The takeaway from this comparison is that the user experience on Amlogic S905 and Rockchip RK3368 based devices should feel pretty similar, with possibly a slightly edge for RK3368 when it comes to 3D games. Considering both processors are mostly found in TV boxes the most important will be video playback support, including 4K H.265, as well as price, and Amlogic S905 devices are currently significantly cheaper than equivalent Rockchip RK3368 devices. I have not tested video playback yet, but for what it’s worth Antutu Video Tester scores 899 points on Ugoos AM1 Amlogic S905 TV box, while I got respectively 532, 328, and 516 points on respectively Beelink i68, Zidoo X6 Pro, and Kingnovel R8 all based on Rockchip RK3368 processor.

Does the mygica atv 582 currently support the dstv now and supersport apps. And what resolution and sound quality will it play netflix? Considering the takelot deal for R1119.

DSTV Now and Supersport support - Only with custom firmware flashed, not straight out of the box.
Netflix - Only SD quality and with an old version that still works with VPN services, Netflix on the Play Store won't work.
Kodi support is also flaky on the S802/805 processor media players.
It will work for basic stuff but for 1 year down the line it's going to be very outdated with little support.
AMLogic is now working on their new S905 processor media players, so expect support to fade away after a few months for their older processors, that's probably one of the reasons Takealot has it on special now, to clear old stock.
But it's a good deal if you want to play 720p videos.

I don't agree with these statements and I have an atv582.

Dstv Now works out of the box and there is good support on the Mygica forum (especially the Canadian one) which includes beta firmware of which I'm running the latest version. Lollipop is about to be released too.

Netflix runs at 480p yes but I am able to run the very latest version with Unotelly.

The box runs 1080p just fine whether through plex, emby, Vevo, YouTube, kodi etc

Everyone makes a big deal about hardware but without decent firmware support one is always limited especially related to drm reliant apps eg dstv now

On the mbox forum. Look for the Dark Knight ROM

**Please note: Dark Knight ROM is for MXIII media players only. I've heard it also works on the GBOX Q

Do not flash the Dark Knight ROM on a MyGica media player. It will brick

If any of the Mygica 582 owners want to try Android Lollipop on their devices, hit me up. Been running it for a month almost but have some concern where Google is heading.

Any firmware update for the MXQ?

It looks like the Mygica ones are the only ones with firmware updates that fixes issues.
The MXQ devices will get even more abandoned as AMLogic is moving to their new chip S905.
The factories producing the cheap S805 devices mass produce for around $20-25 and with such a small profit margin would rather move on to the next chip to make a bigger margin instead of supporting old devices.
With no actual manufacturer that provide support and firmware updates behind the MXQ box it makes it difficult.
Also there are many clone MXQ devices which make it very difficult to find a firmware that will actually boot.
You can buy cheap and have little support or spend more and buy from a manufacturer backed tv box in future.

There are OPENELEC firmware you can try, but you loose Android support.
