The Droid TV thread

Opinions on the MXQ-4K RK3229 Quad Core Android TV Box? Want to use it for Netflix and obviously Kodi. Also some Plex. What's the performance like?
As long as you aware that Netflix will be limited to SD on this box. The Amazon Fire TV is based on Android, will give you Netflix in Full HD and can of course handle Kodi and Plex. It is also has all the required drm for apps like dstv now and of course has top notch firmware and support which is where most android boxes fail. It is not as flexible as pure Android (no Google play services and you can use a more generic front end) but I think is worth a consideration for your needs.

I received my MXQ Pro (Amlogic S905 SOC) yesterday and I'm super happy with it. The only letdown is that the spec sheet said that it supported bluetooth 4.0 and it doesn't seem to be the case (there is no option of turning it on in the settings menu). Is there a chance that I can pop a BT dongle in one of the four USB ports to get this function? I was hoping to use my PS3 BT keyboard - wouldn't want to crowd the TV Room with a separate wireless keyboard and mouse (which works fine without any setup) and the PS3's.

Hey guys, I would like to know which makes and models are people currently using streaming through dstv now? I know there are a few and one is the mygica atv 582, but I want something newer and locally available.

I've been using a regular wireless mouse (R150 Genius jobbie) to control my MXQ Pro box. I just use the Harmony to turn on the TV, Amp and box but for the rest of it, the mouse works great. Just press and hold the left mouse button to open the context menu.

Something that baffled me for a while was turning of the system with the Harmony - everything would switch off, but then all of a sudden the blue light on the box would turn on again. This meant that the next time I turned on the system, the power toggle would switch the box off again. Turns out that any input such as movement from the mouse, would turn on the box again. Luckily the mouse I bought comes with a little power switch to turn it off. Solved the problem.

Anyone else experience a lot of buffering on Kodi? I'm running the latest Kodi (Jarvis) on a 4Meg capped line from Axxess. I'll watch an episode in HD via Exodus without as much as a stutter, just to be buffered to a standstill on the next episode in SD. I have a wifi connection between my router and MXQ Pro box, but can't see that this can be the problem seeing as the stream runs great for about 40 minutes and then cr@ps out all of a sudden. Any suggestions?

The Catch up content works on mine. Live TV does not.
Anyone have a fix?

I updated the firmware on mygica and catch content now works.. cant get live tv to work. Apparently DSTV using DRM on the live feeds and the mygica box does not support this DRM. Nothing much can be done.

Not true. I have two mygica atv582 boxes with the latest firmware (OTA 20151201) and both happily steam live content. Have you tried force stopping the app and then clearing the cache? On rare occasion I've had to do this to restore live viewing.

I don't know how USB IR Remotes work, it might or might not work.
It will require line of sight and short distance from the device to work.
If you can spend more, rather get a MX3 USB Airmouse, it can work on any Android device and PC and you have wifi signal everywhere, a keyboard to type on and can use the airmouse function to control the mouse pointer.

Some advice needed from you knowledgeable lot.

I'm already got a Roku 3 that's running fine for netflix (local) and a bunch of other chanels which actually entertains the wife and kids sufficiently.
Plex is setup somewhere in the house and I download most of the newer stuff that the wife likes to watch as it come out and it simply goes into the library.

The shortcoming at this stage is the occasional (very, I have 2 kids) sport I get to watch.

Now the Roku 3 doesn't support Kodi and it seems to be that most of the live sport streams use Kodi or their own boxes.

As much as I don't want to buy another device I guess I'm going to have to, even if its just for Kodi.

So the alternatives at this stage seem to be the FireTV gen 2 or the NVidia Shield. If I got with the Shield I guess the Roku is moving to the bedroom and the shield become the primary device at that price. One area of preference would be that I can set the DNS on the device itself instead of the router.

The sites I've come accross to stream sport so far are: OffsideStreams, NTV.mx, cricfree.tv and crichd.tv, are there any others I should rather be looking at?

Advice please. Go.
