The Droid TV thread

Hi guys

I just wanted to find out if anyone knows about the Z4 OCTA CORE 4K UHD ANDROID 5.1 TV BOX & MEDIA PLAYER:

http://www.mantality.co.za/android-tvbox-2.html - Barring the price, I can get this for around R1500 from another person.

I just want a box that I can plug into my Samsung 4K TV and stream HD series/movies off Kodi.

Any advice would be appreciated.

TIA

The manufacturer provides no firmware updates and you will have problems with overheating.
Better to buy a Ugoos UT4 or HPH NT-V8 for slightly cheaper.
You will receive regular firmware updates and Rockchip Kodi support with improved 4K, 3D MVC, auto framerate switching & Blueray video playback. If you want 10-bit 4K HEVC support, you can get an HPH NT-V6 for slightly more that will be more future proof.
Kodi is dropping support for most Android devices with upcoming Kodi 17 so having the actual manufacturer of the CPU in the tv box supporting and optimizing Kodi for their hardware is important for the future.

I've hit a brick wall wrt the Remix mini.
In no way can I get the damn thing to play surround sound via hdmi. Transcoding aac gets it done, but then both video and audio stutter horribly.

I can't be sure if it's a Kodi / Android / Remix OS or a combination of the three that's the problem.

Much disappoint :(

Remix mini uses Allwinner chips, the worst you can get.
They also cheated their Antutu scores a lot in the past.
They violate video codec licenses, have no support for Kodi for pass-through or hardware acceleration and firmware is very lacking.
The makers of Remix mini wanted to create a cheap device but they didn't do their homework and choose the incorrect hardware to work with. Now they even ship new devices without the Google Play Store because Google doesn't want to support their non standard user interfaces.

Wish I knew this beforehand :(
I was very impressed with the unit initially- but then that's because sound output was stereo. Now that I have the ability to get surround via hdmi, is when reality hit. I must say with everything else I'm happy. But this sound issue... Eish :(

Does SPMC work on the Remix?

Which droid tv would you get if you had a budget around R1500?

Must be able to handle the New Kodi v17 (Krypton).

I am looking at getting an android based box. Mainly to use kodi, stream music etc. It also seems most if these boxes do not support fullhd Netflix?

Would the minix U1 be a good choice?

the only android player that supports Netflix HD is the Nvdia Shield.

That's actually impressive, in the start you can see its device name is Nexus Player, so they somehow made a knockoff of the Google Nexus Player.

The Amazon Fire TV, NVIDIA Shield and Google Nexus Player are the only Android devices certified to play Netflix HD.

So for anyone looking for one of these Android media players should definitely look at the WeTek Core, it's the only generic Android media player I've heard of that does Netflix 1080P.

Yip and confirmed in this review at AVForums.

There is actually a modified (not cracked) Android TV Netflix app which works well on the Core and it gives two advantages over the version you can download from the Google Play Store. Firstly, it’s 100% remote friendly, where the stock version requires you to use the mouse pointer and, secondly, it is much quicker to reach 1080p resolution whereupon, assuming refresh rate is correct, playback was very good – with a caveat.

Also they have the WeTek Play which supports.

DVB-S2 (satellite)
DVB-C/T/T2 (cable/terrestrial)

Im trying to figure something out. My Android media player picks up my phone when i use it as a hotspot. However when i put in the correct password, it tells me the password is invalid. Any suggestions, as it just wont connect to my phone.

Just tried to connect with another device, and it connects fine. So somehow this media player is not playing nice or somewhere something is wrong

What keyboard do you use ? Popup, wireless or usb ?
Check language / layout settings for chosen keyboard - mine was pop up with reversed capslock
