The Droid TV thread

A friend of mine has also reported a problem with showmax on the 582. Try and download a previous version of the of the app as he had it working previously methinks.

Just got the opportunity to try, unfortunately it doesn't work, same error with Showmax :(

I'm looking for a recommendation on which one to get. it will be used for gaming streaming and as a media player.

Get a Mibox International Android TV 6 ...Poor man's Nvidia Shield but perfect for Third party apps and 4k Netflix and DSTV Now

Do you have a link to the specs of these?

Take a look at the International Version of the Xiaomi Mi Box which is also sold by Walmart in the US. This is one of the very few android based devices that can also stream Netflix, Hulu etc. in HD. If you download and purchase via the Aliexpress app as a new customer you should get a $5 off coupon which will reduce the price to $64-99.

Got myself one of these last night for just under ZAR1K.

Guys, do yourself a favor and make sure that you:
  1. Check if the device has a website and support that gets updated.
  2. Use Freaktab to check for faults and gripes.
  3. DO NOT USE GEARBEST. Piss-poor support...
  4. DO NOT USE ALIEXPRESS. Will not declare the correct amount causing you excessive SARS bills.
  5. Use GeekBuying. Their stuff is cheap, they will beat any price and fully tracked.

If you have a look at devices that is fully supported, you will have at least some kind of recourse when stuck.

As a last point. Ditch the thought of getting DSTV NOW to be fully supported and run without problems. The APP is broken and will not give you the full picture. If you want live sport, do not conciser SuperSport as your APP. The streaming for both DSTV NOW and Supersport are so slow and breaks up all the time. Rather look at alternatives.

Hi Cyber7 last saw you on Freaktab. Lol. Of late I have had better service from Gearbest than Geekbuying.
Do not use TNT courier from Geekbuying. A parcel taking 7 to 10 days took over 40days. Sars issued a fine of r500 for incorrect declaration by Geekbuying and then TNT charged R450 handling compared to r250 of other clearing agents. Geekbuying stated it was my problem and offered no compensation.

Gearbest just gave me $40 refund for a courier parcel that was sent with free shipping. Gearbest now uses Aramex which is three to 5 times less than Dhl. Takes up to 7 working days. Duty is nothing or R400 with Aramex handling fee. Waiting 50 days to save a few hundred Rand is a joke. For $90 with shipping you can have a Mibox International in two weeks max.

It depends on the product I think, I ordered an airmouse and Gearbest only offered Middle East Express for priority shipping. Whereas the Mi Box offers Aramex.

Ah. I see.

Edit: For interest sake, why do they use two different names?
No idea.
Agree on paying a little more and getting it sooner. Two items this month from Gearbest, one picked up 4th, delivered 9th in Durban. Second one picked up 12th, out on delivery today to me in Durban. Online tracking, shipping cost me $9.00, it's for nothing.

Before the sub $10 Aramex shipping option I can see why people didn't want to pay $30 to 50 dollar Dhl when the item cost $35. But now with Aramex it really is a no brainer.

HI THANKS

check out the videos about MIBOX , but the digital out is only via hdmi or coaxial spdif not OPTICAL which is a problem if you dont have an amp that takes hdmi for surround sound or a tv without optical out :(

Not sure what you're on about, both DSTV Now and Supersport work a treat on my Mi Box

Have you tested Showmax? They claim that their app now supports Android TV so I would assume that it also works on the Mi Box.
