The Droid TV thread

Is there a way of choosing the video quality of DSTV now? Even with a 50Mbps line the video quality is still bad on the android tv app.
Not on the Android app, I don't think. If you stream (and cast) from chrome you can

I don’t think DSTV now are supporting FHD at the moment. I could be wrong but I read that somewhere.

The quality is terrible, I've seen that. I think it perhaps because the app was intended for mobile devices, not big screen TV's

Sports channels stream to the max for me, I’m getting decent streams on mine.

You need to get a mi box or Telkom lit box to get the android TV version of DStv now. It's made for a big screen. The native android version is poor picture quality as it's not intended for a large display. The app is quite different to the mobile version. It's very clear.

...and EXACTLY where do you get the AndroidTV version of DSTV NOW?

Off you go then :) didn’t say you couldn’t get the APK just said Android TV owners have the fully functional one on the Play Store.

I am confused... There is only one DSTV NOW app. Are you saying that when (mine is ordered) I run my Mi with the DSTV NOW app, that I get the TV app? (If you get my drift...)

I’m not sure how Android splits the different versions of the application (could be built into the code) however when the app is installed on a MiBox the Version Of DSTV now that is presented is the version properly configured for TV displays and higher resolution.

Other versions of these android boxes that run a stock mobile or tablet version of Android with a theme don’t scale up the way Android TV version does.

Thank you for the detail, but this just adds more question, namely, as far as I understand you have to sideload DSTV NOW. There is only one app available (VER: 1.40.18 as of this writing). Am I correct?

Dstv lauched an official droid tv app late last year.

Mi box you can download direct from play store.. works perfectly.
No need to side load.

If someone was to download the app from the playstore and then shareit to a mobile and then upload the apk...

From what I'm understanding, it's the same app, it just detects your hardware and behaves differently if it's a certain brand / box.
