The DStv myth

My attention has just been drawn to this article and i am actually horrified. I have been quoted on this piec without my knowledge, out of context and in fact incorrectly.

...

The fact that an article I wrote was twisted to become a advert for DSTV is a gross misrepresentation and an abuse of my rights

You know, I had a sneaking suspicion that this might be the case. I am glad you have come here to clear this up. Welcome, by the way. And my apologies for anything that may have been critical of you.

Did I call it?

I wrote an article for Finweek Collective insights. The purpose of the article was to examine the validity of blindly following a rule of thumb when it comes to financial advise. One example I used was a DSTV subsricption The purpose of the article was not for it to be used to market DSTV and justify DSTV. This means that the intention of my article has been totally misused, as stated without my knowledge or permission.

To clear up some facts:
  1. Firstly the client was not in financial distress, it was in a budgeting excersice.
  2. Secondly it was not recently. I have not been in practice for over six years, so this happened about ten years ago.
  3. Thirdly the intention of the article was to highlight the fact that financial decisions should be considered based on a persons personal circumstances and one should not blindly follow general advise.

Yoh. Makes me wonder how many fake stories we've been fed on here. Pretty pathetic mybb

@GreGorGy Thank you. Appreciate the comment. Unfortunately much can be taken out of context. Glad I had the opportunity to clear it up

Article deletion in 3 ... 2...

I just shat in my hand and ate it. I now feel on par with this article.

As the OP said, this quoted experiment is ancient old. No one is so crazy about local sport in today's age that they need to go to the bar or restaurant for every game.

Just giving this a bit more thought, its actually disgusting that David Kop would agree to have his name attached to such a shameful piece of bullshyte advertising for DSTV.

It makes me question the FPI in general in terms of their independence.
I did not consent to have my name attached to the article. They used a piece that I wrote for collective insights and totally quoted out of context

If said person if going through financial trouble, why would they even consider watching sports at a restaurant or bar? I'm having a tough time wrapping my head around this article.
Misquoted. The person was not in financial trouble it was a normal discussion around a budget. The point is they could easily afford both, but from a budget view point the DSTV in this instance was the lesser cost. Would not always be so. If the full article was quoted in context and not a part of it, may have been more clear

So your original writing was on a middle/ upper class citizen that could afford extra luxuries and not in the financial climate we are in at the moment where many have to cut back on expenses?

What a pile of horse bullocks!!!!!! There is a HUGE saving dumping dstv. There are other options at SMALL amounts in comparison OR free.
Also dont use the kak story of you need internet, typically people have it already and mostly uncapped these days. I cancelled 5 years ago and haven't looked back ever!!
This interaction was something that took place ten years plus ago. So the options at that time were limited

Holy shyteballs, I wouldn't let David anywhere near my money, he can't even construct a coherent sentence when trying to sell himself

Also, given his current role, as Executive director of relevance, why is he dealing directly with clients. Is the FPI aware that David is working a sideline job?
So this is the problem with someone misquoting you. The interaction was not recent but ten years ago. Way before I started atthe FPI.

Throwing an individual under the bus for your own BS more than likely sponsored article, classy.
