Man, that would explain all the shacks in the informal settlements having dishes on the roofs. It's awesome to see all those people saving money! I think I'm going to sign up for DStv this week. Gotta save some of that money, yo.

If you are not willing to downgrade your DSTV package, you are not deep enough in trouble. I have downgraded mine to the R100 package. Definitely not ideal but at least gives me access to SABC and a few more and some movie channels that I actually enjoy. I love cricket and when the Proteas play locally, the games are shown on SABC3. So, it is possible. I add to it with YouTube as many newsclips are also streamed. I am now used to this package and the saving is enormous. I am still a member of the gym and I have spend sometimes up to two hours on some equipment that displays SS channels and watched Rugby World Cup games there. So it was good for fitness as well. In intense sports periods, you can always go to max for one month or so. I don't watch any series on DSTV as I hate to be tied down. I have Netflix now and don't watch that much but would probably watch a series or what there. Once Fibre is well established, most of DSTV will be streamed as well and probably in timeslots that suits you. Sport works better when it is realtime.

My attention has just been drawn to this article and i am actually horrified. I have been quoted on this piec without my knowledge, out of context and in fact incorrectly.

I wrote an article for Finweek Collective insights. The purpose of the article was to examine the validity of blindly following a rule of thumb when it comes to financial advise. One example I used was a DSTV subsricption The purpose of the article was not for it to be used to market DSTV and justify DSTV. This means that the intention of my article has been totally misused, as stated without my knowledge or permission.

To clear up some facts:
  1. Firstly the client was not in financial distress, it was in a budgeting excersice.
  2. Secondly it was not recently. I have not been in practice for over six years, so this happened about ten years ago.
  3. Thirdly the intention of the article was to highlight the fact that financial decisions should be considered based on a persons personal circumstances and one should not blindly follow general advise.
The fact that an article I wrote was twisted to become a advert for DSTV is a gross misrepresentation and an abuse of my rights
