All good and well but opposition without action doesn't cut it. Which others have taken the stance DA has? Besides, privatisation is not the problem, corruption is.

The FF+.

I think it would have helped their image against those that think DA = apartheid. As a party with a black presidential candidate wouldn't do that. Just the effort shows they bringing change.

I was very excited when I heard about the merger, it was a truly great idea and a moment for SA. But then the walls came crashing down and it became obvious how badly it was managed. I can't vote for the DA in good faith in this election, maybe next election...

How I see the results of this poll.

DA - 152 Votes (Glad to see we have so many rational minded people on this forum with the country’s best intentions at heart)
EFF and ANC - 8 Votes (Still stumped anyone can vote for the ANC after all the blatant corruption that is exposed daily. EFF is just a racist organisation that will kill this country. So we have 8 complete morons in this forum IMO, don't really care if you disagree)

The rest of the parties are irrelevant, I wish that people would realise voting for these tiny parties who aren’t going to win is not what we need right now, we need a strong opposition to the ANC and DA is pretty much the only hope.

I have a feeling that the people voting FF+, Agang ect. do so because they are probably annoyed with the DA because perhaps they did something that you don't agree with but I think people need to give the DA a chance. IMO right now they are our only hope of saving this country.

Only way a tiny party to become a strong opposition is for people to start voting for them. And every "tiny party" vote is a chip off the ANC power while voting for a party that aligns with your views.

(I did not choose DA incase you needed clarification)

Perhaps, but do you honestly see for example the FF+ winning this or even the next election? I don't. If this country continues the way it is under ANC rule I don't think we will make it through another 2 elections. Point is we need a strong opposition and TBH I don't see any of these smaller parties gaining momentum anytime soon.

They don't need to win an election to make a difference. As soon as the ANC has less than 50% of the votes in parliament we will have a real democracy on our hands because the other parties will be able to form a coalition or to at least vote together to stop an ANC motion.

That makes sense, I just feel that if everyone put their votes together and voted DA and gave them a chance we would see real change happen in this country.

But I catch your drift. :)

I saw this old afrikaans movie once. The family were all sitting in the lounge drinking coffee, after they had just been introduced to some new neighbour or someone along those lines. One of the first questions they asked him was: "So meneer, stem u darem reg?" :wtf:

If I didn't know they meant the NP, I would have thought it was a movie about DA supporters.

If you dont agree with the policies? I refuse to vote for a party if I dont agree with what they stand for or how they conduct themselves.

The support base for the DA in my part of the world has more than doubled... and its all been black people. So white people are outnumbered where I am from. I dont think they would look at the same advert and come to the same conclusion as you.

I guess we all look at the world through the tint we wanna see.

I agree.

If your choice of party is defined by hatred of another party, you're not voting right. You vote for the party whose policies you agree with and who you feel represented by.

It is blatant arrogance to suggest everyone must vote for the DA even if they don't agree with them.

May I ask what DA policies specifically you don't agree with?

The DA is a lot better than the alternatives IMO. Each to his own, but I would give the DA a chance they have done a lot of good in the Cape and continue to do so.

I'm not referring to the overwhelming white support the DA has, but rather the arrogance of their supporters. That a vote not made for the DA is a spoilt vote, a "wrong" vote. There's proof enough that a lot of DA supporters think like this, in this thread and IRL.

Because we know best :D

Just kidding, ultimately it is your vote and it is up to you, but maybe the DA supporters are just trying to rally more votes because we want the DA to win so that this country can change for the better.

Most of the supporters I know are rural, down to earth black people trying to make a better country. I would hardly call them arrogant. Are you still basing your judgement on the 2009 elections? In most parts of the country the DA has more than doubled in size... and that support has not come from white people.

I guess some people are still stuck in the past.

If you look at almost every major DA event over the last year or two, you will see that white people are a minority at a lot of these events.

Nope. A party that's as empathetic as a snake will not change the country for the better.
