Who can we contact in Cape Town about this, I wanna double check the accuracy of this information. I dont see why government officials would stop working because there is an election and I would like to follow this up.

EDIT: Okay, its Western Cape Liquor Authority, trying to find a working number for them.

Tried that?

Thanks for following up. Would be useful to know what the deal is.

Its quite common actually. During an election year, you'll notice a distinct drop in the number of major tenders being published. And if you have submitted a bid recently, you are assured it will be delayed until the new administration is in place.

Large scale projects I get, but liquor licences for retailers?

It really saddens me that alcohol is so important to some people that they vote on it while we are staying in the murder and rape capital of the world (probably corruption capital as well).

I vote for more freedom, not less.

Given the feedback he gave on the motivation about the Muslim community vote, entirely possible. The liqour board people are accountable to a political appointee in the form of the MEC for whichever provincial department they are part of right?

Yeah
Freedom from corruption
Freedom from murder
Freedom from rape
Freedom to purchase as much alcohol as you want to whenever you want to

All clearly equally important.

Actually we're not the murder, rape or corruption capital of the world. All 3 are unacceptably and despicably high, naturally.

Sure is.

Hmm, possibly, I don't know. Seems a stretch to suggest someone would get fired for issuing valid and lawful liquor licences, though...

Would the bulk of the voting Muslim community even care? If the political powers that be didn't care enough about their vote to not extend the trading hours in the first place, why would they care enough to just delay it till after the election? It doesn't make a substantial difference. It just pushes everything back 2 months for no reason.

Hmmm I thought there would only be one or two votes for the EFF here.

You can trash the EFF as much as you like. Just be carefull. Before you rub your eyes the "trolls", copycats, subhumans, etc. , might end up in front of your racist DA :D What then Mr. Venter?

Officials and politicians are not the same thing. In fact, they are often at odds with each other. The DA actually underestimated this divide when they took over the WC.

It was late afternoon on Friday when I tried to call, didnt get through, going to try again on Monday. As Helen Suzman said, you need to see it with your own eyes (or hear with your own ears) before you just accept it. There is so much misinformation going around, that sometimes you have to check.

Inferiority complex much?

Since I got a DA spam e-mail I am unsure currently. Maybe spoil my ballot...

If the DA can't behave in a civil manner, then I cant vote for them.
You are joking, right? You'll stand in a queue, get your name checked, then spoil your vote? :wtf:

They are intimidated and threatened if they don't vote. This way they avoid violence.
