Yeah , I know a guy in Singapore he says the cargo ships are empty and there are so many ships parked out in international waters it looks like a military fleet.

All we have to fear is fear is self.

If you'll excuse me I'll go right ahead and fear my butt off. :D

I see no reason why GD2 will not be far worse than GD1. For starters, there are now more than twice the amount of people around than there were in the 30s and even worse, the lion's share of us are now urbanised compared to a small percentage back then. If commercial farming was to fail on us now, very few people will have the option of growing some veggies and keeping a couple of hens in the backyard. You're going to have untold numbers of hungry mouths very quickly, should that happen.

On top of that, bar a few notable exceptions, almost every single economy is now fundamentally linked to all the others around it and to Wall Street in particular. The chances of getting through this relatively unscathed if Wall Street was to go belly-up are very slim indeed.

My bet is that by October the US Govt funding will be so depleted no more US then onto UK etc bailouts will be possible. Then its a worldwide domino collapse of economies

Should be fun. As far as food is concerned, I'll go back to where my old man was born. The place is in the middle of frikken nowhere (all mountain tops and snow).

Only thing is I will have to hijack a toilet paper truck. I can stand snakes and wolves - but no toilet paper will piss me off no end!

At the moment the US is still able to more or less keep the whole thing going by selling worthless treasury bills to the Chinese. The Chinese have admitted recently that they hate to be in a position to have to continue buying these essentially worthless T-bills in a desperate attempt to sustain the symbiotic relationship between the two countries.

The trouble will really start when China runs out of foreign reserves in order to continue doing so. At the moment they are burning through their reserves at a staggering rate and sooner rather than later they'll have no choice but to stop buying American debt. No prizes for guessing where that would lead.

I found a group on Facebook which is doing just the opposite than that StrongTurd is doing:

10,000 to Tell the Media to Stop Inciting More Fear and Panic

The media adding fuel to fire anytime they can to make this economic crisis even worse. Let's fight back and tell the massive media complex that they are perpetuating panic and fear and to exercise responsibility!

Hope they will succeed as the doom and gloom prophecies just make this worse.

Trouble is there are also to many ostriches. The media may be overcooking things sometimes but all the US , British and European media groups can't be wrong.

The ostriches is not hurting the economy, but the constant overcooking of the bad news does.

Have StrongTurd ever posted a positive story?

@ BBSA: I'm puzzled as to why I've now been asked by at least 3 different people to shut up about all of this. Sure, the various links that I've posted in this thread probably contain the worst news that any of us have ever encountered but heck, burying your head in the sand will not make this crisis go away.

The sad reality is that unless a miracle happens, this crisis is going to have a direct impact on each of our lives, maybe even in a profound way. It is of course your right not inform yourself about any of this. I've got no problem with that. Simply unsubscribe yourself from this thread and be done with. But at the same time, allow me to discuss this in public, ok?

I want to reiterate that I don't WANT this crisis to unfold. Not even in the slightest. Rest assured that if I see any sign that things are turning around, I'll post it here. Ever since I discovered the peak oil theory in 2004 I realised that our society, based on infinite growth, was done with. What did take me by surprised was the sheer speed at which this crisis is unfolding. I always thought that we had at least another decade or so left before things started coming apart. Alas, I seem to have been way too optimistic.

The funny things is that, even though I fully realise that a Mad Max scenario or even WWIII might well be in our future, I am in no way constantly worrying about it. In fact, I tend to sleep like a baby. I find the current unfolding of events to be more fascinating than scary, maybe because I have read so widely about the subject.

I support you, StrongTurd, I say "Un-shut-up!"

I never ask you to shut up, I have just ask you to be more balanced.

To constantly talking down the economy is not going to help anybody.

Not true.....

I'm glad that you have such a good understanding of my state of mind and sleeping patterns. I'll come to you if ever stress gets the better of me, ok? :D

Anyways, might I suggest that I post the bad news and that you counter by posting the feel-good stuff. This way we'll maintain a fair balance. I'm sure that I'm going to find it far easier to find links to back up my point than you are. :D

No, seriously, how come you want me to be "balanced"? I've looked extensively at the facts presented to me and I've made up my mind as to the overwhelmingly likely outcome of all of this. I see no need to scour the internet in an attempt to find something positive to offset my own point of view. I'm not some sort of a public broadcasting station that needs to comply with the Broadcasting Complaints Commission's code of conduct, not so? I'm merely a normal guy stating my opinion on a public forum.

Much appreciated. :D

I have the mental picture of one of these CNN Business commentators when I see you - can't think of his name but anyway ... Good for you, carry on.

The Global Liquidity Crisis is going to hit us, hasn't done so yet.
Quoting Scary Movie 4 I think "We're so f-cked."

The original link for this was one of the most enlightening articles I've read on the crisis. Anyone who does not think we are going to get smacked sooner or later needs their head examined. It's happening already I think. I look forward to more StrongT links and posts.
