Hey all.

I'm a long standing WoW player with 6 characters (2 70s) and I've been playing for 2 years now (since release) BUT I'm in the States which makes it easier. Don't fret I'm 100% South African studying here.

For those looking for an insane amount of Support: Create/Transfer any of your Horde character to the realm EREDAR. It's a great US PVP realm. If you guys are playing PVE then you're missing out on a crapload. That goes for any SA allies too, shame on you all! I tried Alliance but there are way too many douches and as far as characters, Allies are a bit bland. I'm not advocating you join Horde (some still view them as the evil race???) but overall you get a better experience with much friendlier people and great teams.

I've read a few posts and I see many of you are on Stormrage which is a good server but far from what you guys should be looking for. Really guys, get on a PVP server and you will never look back.

If any of you need help joining WoW, just PM me because there are a number of options for SA players. I'll help you throughout any lvling, instances or quests (as well as my Guildies who are all 70s). Our guild is also Kara attuned and running Zul'aman on a daily basis. Great bank too if you need solid equipment, supplies and gold.

My Guild is called 'Thrallstars' and I'm spending most of my time leveling up my Orc Hunter (fastest to level) Neuman.

P.S. This thread is also open to any and all general questions about the game

WoW was released 3 years ago actually.

Alliance or Horde makes no difference there are idiots on both sides. I hate stupid stereotypes.

It was released end of 2004 and I got it beginning of 2005. Sorry for not being technical but I doubt that was yout intention

And it's kind of awkward speaking of stereotypes for a game don't you think? Especially as fictional as Warcraft. It's like saying I prefer Hobbits over Orcs in Lord of the Rings cos Orcs are ugly. No one should really hate you for that. But its a generalization that's fair to make. Horde = Smaller community and oftentimes a stronger community aspect.

But hey, I'm only trying to help the people who want to play and take options such as unofficial servers. Transferring from EU, not much I can do there.

Speaking to ex-horde players and asking them about their faction reveals that there isn't much of a challenge in PVP when you play horde - you tend to win most of the time.

That is why I prefer the Alliance, I like a challenge. It's more rewarding.

Does that apply to PVP servers or PVP Arenas? Because it essentially applies both ways. On PVP servers there's generally an issue of being ganked in places like SV and even outland. In PVP arenas, Horde generally wins WSG and AB but when it comes to AV, well just look at your token count. So as I said, it's hard to say the challenge isn't there. Esp. on PVP servers.

There are fewer good PVP players on the Alliance side, but the good players stand out and tend to actually be exceptionally skilled.

The horde might have more good players on average but roughly the same amount of exceptional players.

So at the end of the day, when you're talking bout arenas, you will find the top teams might be dominated by horde, but the top team might be Alliance. I would guess the reason for this being that the skilled Alliance PVP players often times find themselves having to play twice as hard as the horde to achieve the same PVP rewards. This, in my mind, affords the Alliance player much more experience in PVP.

Alliance is not about the amount of good PVP players, but about the exceptional quality of their top PVP'ers.

Therefore, go make a horde character if you are lazy and like to play on the winning side (PVP) - roll Alliance if you are the type of person who enjoys a challenge and get satisfaction from defeating the odds.

Thats an interesting way of looking at it but quite frankly having played both I disagree. Horde Players do tend to be better at PvP but there are generally a lot less Horde players whereas Alliance tends to be very numerous with a much higher "moron percentage"
I played Alliance for 2 years and now I'm playing Horde. Best move ever.

Didn't you read my post at all? Look, strictly talking PVP Allies have advantages and so does horde.I don't want to turn this into a flame war but in terms of skill levels, it relatively even. If horde was so much easier, a lot more people would be playing as them (case in point that WoW is supposed to be an accessible game). If you are strictly referring to Arena's themselves (2v2, 3v3, 5v5), look at the leaderboards at wowarmory.com. It is literally split right down the middle. 'Exceptional' players are found on both factions.

But I should ask, what makes the horde so easy?

Ok, without turning this into a flame war I will try to use an analogy to explain my point.

South Africa is a country with many benefits, but we have incredibly crap broadband. Those who remain here despite this fact, and who learn to adapt and fight while waiting for better days can continue to enjoy the positive aspects of the country and remain patriotic at the same time.

The UK, for example, does not have many of the things that makes South Africa such a nice place, but it has comparatively great broadband offerings. Those who choose to move away from South Africa instead of staying and facing the problems head on, get to reap the rewards of much better broadband while at the same time leaving a part of their heritage behind.

Excluding all the really moronic players (of which there are many), most skilled PVP gamers will eventually be faced with this decision. If they did not originally roll horde, do they then switch over at a later stage for the "better" PVP or decide to stay and fight it out on the Alliance side. General consensus is that horde players include among them many ex-Alliance players and this, coupled with the minority idea and actual "hording" of players together give them the edge in PVP.

Now I ask you - do you remain in South Africa or emigrate to the UK? I have made my choice ;)

i think there is a natural human inclination to play alliance because they are viewed as "good" as apposed to the horde being "evil" (not my view btw).

Because of this fact there seems to be a much higher alliance population, which would then in turn account statistically for more "moron" players as quoted above, both factions might have the same "moron" ratio, but a higher population on one side will account for a higher "moron" count for said side.

That being said, many people seem to think that the Horde players are generally better than Alliance players, not quite sure why. Do we have any evidence to substantiate such claims?
It could be attributed(in PVP) to horde players having much more alliance opposition and therefore being forced to adapt and play better.

Dude seriously? South Africa vs UK is nothing like Alliance vs Horde. Firstly its not like you can initially choose where you want to be. No one and I mean no one was born an allie and thus your talk of patriotism becomes moot.

And is for the struggle you refer to... How often do you here of the dominant race 'struggling' (please no Zimbabwe references). Alliance is what keeps WoW running simply in sheer numbers. If anything, you should say UK is Ally and SA is Horde. Then I would definitely say hell yeah I wanna be in SA. In fact, wouldn't most people see UK as allies and SA as Horde? Simply look at the cities (in WoW) and you'll understand :p

In fact that's an interesting topic. Someone should start a poll seeing whether UK is viewed as Alliance or Horde and likewise for SA...

On almost all servers there is a higher percentage of alliance over horde. In the bad days before cross realm battlegrounds queue times were pathetic for alliance because they had to sit around and wait for horde to queue. A huge number of serious PvPers realised that they would get more action if they went horde, and this is what they did. This gives horde a higher percentage of "serious" PvPers than alliance.

Horde were always at a PvE disadvantage (Pre TBC) and therefore spent more time PvPing to get gear and skilling up

Those are the 2 reasons horde tend to do better in BGs than alliance

In case you guys hadn't noticed arena is cross faction so theres no horde vs alliance...it's just a case of the best players getting to the top

You made a lot of good points especially about the congestion for allies. Pre TBC this was evidenced especially in Stormwind City (serious lag).

Either way that's far from the claims Horde is easy mode. Challenge is different from frustration of getting into bgs. But for any hordies, does anybody find it easy to win AV? But yes Arena is cross faction. You're still playing with your own 'faction teams' though (if that makes sense)

Those who remain here despite this fact, and who learn to adapt and fight while waiting for better days can continue to suffer the lack of any postive aspects of the country and not remain patriotic at the same time.
