The Facebook Experiment

Actually deleted facebook about 2 months ago ironically. You will be suprised at how liberating it is. People that like me actaully message or call to see how im doing. Its great. Thinking of sending a pen pal letter to a mate in London. Oh the Hipsterness of it all...

Facebook is for the asses that need appreciation from others.
They are not real online personas, as they focus on gathering followers.
I never had Facebook account. It didn't look convincing for me that I really needed it.

No point deleting my account,I was one of the early adopters on both facebook and twitter, then slowly lost interest in both, now if I log in once in a month it's too much.

Place is full of attention seekers.:erm:

Log in from time to time.

People post their "I'm so happy, love you babe" bullcrap then before you know it they're divorced :p.

Another thing that is highly irritating is the so-many-likes gets a donation and/or faked images to get amens and/or if you believe in <insert_God_of_your_choice> click like.

I use my facebook feed primarily as a news feed from news organisations and entertainment news.
Have unfollowed most of my friends.

Facebook is an awesome tool if used correctly. Brilliant way to get 'free' advertising if you manage a page well. Useful way to be in contact with good buddies that live far away. I probably spend about two hours on FB a week - posting on a page I manage and checking in with some of my connections. I am very quick to unfriend folks who are bothersome and it works well for me.

I did disable ALL notifications though - other than the ones I get on my FB page - so am able to go for weeks at a time without being bothered by FB. That changed my experience dramatically. If you use it well - it can really be awesome.

My experience anyway.

That is what I use Twitter for now.

Facebook became too much of a circle-jerk. I log in perhaps once or twice a month now.

Strange how I find time for other things now that don't spend that hour looking at the same stuff over and over.

I was free of facebook from 2011 until last week.

with all the funeral arrangemetnts that needed to be made facebook was unfortunately the best way to do it.
I want from fresh account to 120 friends in just shy of 4 hours. not a single one of those people were not a close friend. and I did not join any groups(other than a Friends group arranging the funeral that I was added to after I already had all the members as friends)

for now the right thing to do is. leave the account dormant. because pfft closing it takes too much time

...or alternatively you could...you know...develop some self-control.

This would of course involve: Not trying to live your life through the site by recording everything from breakfast to your bowel movements, not looking for excuses to essentially stalk friends and family every 5min, avoiding trying to make direct comparisons with your own life and what others project onto Facebook and cut out the time wasted on the silly online games and various focus groups that make you overly emotional (e.g. those dealing with politics, crime, etc).

Some may find this harder to do than others, but if you can you'll discover that FB still has some use when you don't take it so seriously.

I'd love to "delete"Facebook but even if that were possible, I think the few million schoolgirls and old ladies using it would be a bit ticked off.

My personal favorite: 'Ag my liefie, my Godlike Man, jy is my wereld!', this coming from an ex housemate of mine to an associate of mine on his FB wall. He's so chuffed he got such a chaste little christian girl.

The stories I could tell... but obviously will not.

Facebook newsfeed is as good or as bad as the people you are friends with/pages you like. If you have a problem with it then you need better friends/unfollow them/unlike pages etc.

I like Facebook, it helps me keep tabs on my mates/family all over the world.

ITT: People that diss Facebook but spend the whole day on MyBB

I'm not on Facebook most of the time, I also use it just for news, posting news, and managing my page. I spend about two hours a week on it, maybe less.

MyBB, on the other hand...
