The fine wine thread

Lol it took people decades to figure out there nothing wrong with the screw cap wines. Will probably take them another millennium to figure out there's nothing wrong with boxed wine.
Two completely different "issues"...

Screw caps are more effective than cork, as well as cheaper. Cork was/is ancient "tech" that was replaced by screwcaps. It took a while due to stigma and traditionalists that dug in their heels. It was an image thing mainly, but luckily the aggressive New World Wine making Ozzies didn't take any kak and spearheaded the shift.

BiB wine is normally of an average standard and made using cheaper techniques, grapes and other products. I don't drink wine every day, so I don't drink BiB...I prefer better stuff. My SO on the other hand is less picky for a quick glass during dinner or after work.

Some Porra tannies from the plaas and their friend arrived for a visit.

They all look like Porras to me, where is the friend?

Same difference to me.

Have a case (had...) of 2011 Morgenster with cork seal. They all ripped when trying to open. After a lot of swearing and filtering and food getting cold, I was able to enjoy. I wished for screw cap.

That happens a lot with the cheaper press cork usually, but the Morgenster I have, has the solid cork.

Is/was it this one?

Exactly that one!! I have one bottle left. I might get a double spade cork "screw" to open it one day. Don't know what it's called. It slides between the cork and glass.

This Morgenster was the best "R700 bottle" I ever had (well, it was discounted from R220 to R100, but other estates like Rupert market a wine like this for R700). I rarely buy wine for over R150.

I bought a a vertical tasting box from them of that River Valley about 2 years ago. That was amazing 6 bottles cant remember the exact vintages, think it started at 2009 then went up.
