The fine wine thread

How do this work?

I've always been a Malbec fan.

Recon I should try collect these

Love Malbec as well. But priceso_O
Have a bottle or 4 the Woolies Bellevue

Going to add as many of these as I can. Luckily it would involve a well planned day trip. Malbec and Pinot Noir are apparently the "healthiest" wines for the heart. Not getting any younger lol

Not fine wine but damn nice, but was not available up here ever since....

Not sure I'd pay R500 for a boxed wine though. Works out to R125 a bottle. Can get some Diemersfontein Shiraz for that money.

Have you tried it?

If you look at the content it is 4 x 3l at R125 per box

What's in the box: 4x3 Litre BIB Stellenbosch Hills Polkadraai Merlot/Shiraz

Lol it took people decades to figure out there nothing wrong with the screw cap wines. Will probably take them another millennium to figure out there's nothing wrong with boxed wine.

They do have one major flaw and that's shelf life. Hopefully that won't take a millennium to resolve.

Q: Why does boxed wine expire?
Boxed wine (unlike bottled) has an expiration date. This is because BIB’s are more porous than glass. Boxed wine is not designed for aging. Consume it within 6-8 months of purchase and the quality will be up to par. On the upside, open a box and the wine will stay fresh for six weeks, unlike a bottle that will go sour after one.

But... once opened it lasts longer.

PS, Was at some friends. The wine I had brought was finished. So the wife offered me some previously who knows when opened Chocolate Block. Got all exited as I am a huge Chocolate Block fan ( Boekenhoutskloof!) but it was way off. My tears of joy turned to tears of sorrow :(

Bottled wine once opened... 3 days max.

I know - I have a bunch of pre-lockdown boxed wine that the clock is ticking for.

Yep.
