To be perfectly frank, I don't drink. Never been drunk in my sweet little faux-angelic life and I certainly don't ever plan on it. Regardless, other half brought home a bottle of red wine tonight to try out that whole theory that a glass of red wine a day will help you sleep better, feel better and... some other nonsense I can't recall.

So, shrugged and gave it a shot tonight. Either I'm highly susceptible to the crimson influence, or that theory is spot on. I'm... well... quite surprised I'm still awake actually. I had a glass along with my pizza tonight and it's done a marvellous job of "soothing" my evening. Heck, I feel as though I'm moments away from closing my eyes and drifting off into blissful sleep.

I think I might be on the verge of forming a brand new habit!

Gosh, R400 at the casino last night, a glass of red wine tonight. I'm turning posh, I tells ya! :D
 
A sudden interest in gambling and alcohol...hmmm whats next, drugs, prostitutes, World of Warcraft :sick:

Be careful that 1 glass could be leading you down a dark dangerous road. :p

Myself, I prefer a night tot of whiskey but alas I usually have to study late at night and thus need all my braincells. :(

I'm not really fond of alcohol, except for once in a while when I'll dip into a Dom Pedro with Nachmusiek/peppermint liqueur/kahlua... But that in itself is a rarity.

So far I'm quite content with this red wine thing... Will see how it goes :) I'd go climb into bed if I wasn't doing some online window shopping and reading reviews and articles... *YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWN*
 
My circle of friends meet up every Thursday evening at someone's house and it's the mens' job to supply the wine and it's the women's job to supply the snacks. Tonight is such an evening again.

We've been doing this for the last 3 years.
 
Another good French rule: one glass of water for every glass of wine you drink. The more wine, the more important this rule becomes!

If you're a relatively new wine drinker, try out the chocolate/mocha Diemersfontein Pinotage or the intense berry Laibach Ladybird. The Ladybird is organic too, which means less sulphur and usually less post-vino sinus attacks.

Go to a few wine tasting sessions in Stellies. :)
You'll learn to pick the best ones.

I'm going to another one on Saturday - I'm a slow learner.;)

Lycan - welcome to the world of wine! It's the nectar of the gods as they say, and one or two glasses will help solve that semi-insomnia of yours. Go do some of the wine-tasting- you will enjoy it and its a pretty cool thing to do with your partner as well - but be warned, it can get heavy on the pocket when you realise that the wines you really like are in fact made by the dozen on an annual basis and cost R500 for 750ml...:o

Don't let DJK scare you off, there are skilled, local boutique winemakers who make fantastic wine for less than R100 a bottle (thinking Springfield Estate and Saltare).

Hmm, we should get a sticky thread with a list of favorites for others to try.
 
There have been some very interesting studies lately on the advantages of Red Wine, specifically something called Resveratrol.

The only problem is you have to drink a truck load of wine to get the full benefits. Some of the claimed benefits are longevity, and lowering of blood sugar (good for diabetics).

I have just ordered a few more cases!

Well, I slept like a brick last night and this morning I didn't want to get up at all :) Definitely going to try it for a week or so and experiment with it.

Indeed, my partner's been eager to drag me off to wine farms for a while. Perhaps I'll consider it now, although it's starting to sound like an expensive indulgence :) I guess we'll see :p

I've heard that as well - was one of the reasons I didn't mind giving it a shot :) Thanks for the link as well, morebroadband :D
 
If you're really interested in building up your knowledge of wine, buy yourself the Platter's Wine Guide.

That way, you get the best info, instead of some of the drivel posted here.
