The future of fixed line

With all the cable theft, they need to make a serious plan about putting the cables into the ground. I would rather go for an operator with a wireless service. My lines have been stolen 5 times in 3 months, and it is getting worse...

Fixed lines have their use and great potential but the way telkom are handling things it doesnt seem so...

'If a new investor would come into the fixed line operations and drive a new strategy rather than focus entirely on short-term profitability'

Yup, short-term. But my memory retention is somewhat long-term in Telkom's regard. They've had their blood, but in 2020 (sarcasm but quite possible) when we finally have a decent competitor, I'll rely on that trusty elephant-like memory to excercise my right to choice. Actually I'll stubbornly do whatever I can to support someone else. Even if Telkom got all their sh*t together, you've got to have little principles to forget the past - our present.

Got broadband in around 2002 / 03 and now 6-7 years later, little has changed. If you want real progression, it's one word: immigrate.

Internet and SMEs

The idea of the widespread availability of internet in all the major business centres in South Africa is indeed good news.

This will assist SMEs to leverage the strengths that internet connectivity provide. Reduced operational costs, 24/7 marketing opportunities and the convenience that it brings are some of the immediate benefits.

Connectivity has to be married to the availability of affordable desktops and notebooks for this initiative to be meaningful.

TELKOM IS DEAD

In 5 years time no conumer will go to them unless they can offer BETTER & CHEEPER service than Neotel

Oddly enough cable theft usually precedes upgraded technology... fingers crossed they will be digging in your road quite soon.....;)

What Telkom needs to do is hold on to the fixed-line market and offer quality ADSL and POTS services. Unfortunately they cant even do that at the moment, as i've been waiting 3 months for them to replace my stolen cable. I've even offered to pay for the cable myself, but they're simply not interested in replacing it. They obviously dont care about losing me as a customer? Good luck to their future if that's the kind of mentality that the company is going to be run around, when there's competition around...

Telkodemonopolies decided a few months back to drop out of TelkodemonopoliesMedia, which would have provided the impetus required to force Telkodemonopolies to improve its ADSL [e.g. upgrade to ADSL2+] as well as improve Telkodemonopolies' customer service and corporate image in general.

Furthermore Telkodemonopolies is trying to make waves in the media about divorcing itself from Vodafone and their child [Vodacom], and then starting its [Telkodemonopolies'] own in-house cellular business.

I have to wonder if Telkodemonopolies knows something we don't about the expected pace of Local Loop Unbundling - that would also explain why Telkodemonopolies has accelerated the rate at which it is letting the [copper] local loop fall to pieces...
