The Gadget Shop has closed

The Gadget Shop has closed its doors, the owner of the franchise, Hannes van der Walt, has told MyBroadband.

MyBroadband enquired about the status of The Gadget Shop after a reader told us how they struggled to get a refund after their order for a power bank was cancelled.

The customer ordered a power bank from The Gadget Shop on 18 May, after which they received an e-mail stating that there had been an error on the website and that the item was actually out of stock.

But are we going to say it now for every business that closes down? You have any inside information they struggled financially before the lockdown?

Edgars for example was a mess long before the lockdown.

What? How are businesses supposed to work without income for 3 months? Still having to try pay staff and such?
The government also did sweet diddly squat for certain businesses.

I think they more than likely did ok pre-covid.. hell they had shops etc so much have been doing ok... but I would only guess that the margins were razor thing and a month without trade was enough to break the business.

If they had physical stores, that is probably what killed them. That is 100% lockdown.

The margins in tech shops are razor thin, add that they've got rent to still pay on shops that aren't generating income and bam. Even bigger distributors are feeling it, it took months for a workstation I ordered from a big distributor thanks to lockdowns worldwide.

They must’ve improved since I last stepped into one then. All they had was cheap 3rd party products.

Unless I’m thinking of Gadget Time. Or Gadget something else.

That's not even remotely true.
You can have a good stable business that didn't have plans in place for 3+ months of accrued working capital to sustain a non-operational business, because who would've thought there was going to be a worldwide pandemic like this.
A lot of businesses work on the idea that they will be constantly open to do business. Which now seems like a high risk in hindsight, but then again do you have asteroid insurance?
