The game's just begun

In 2009 the PS3 will reach cumulative unit sales of 42,3m, against 52,1m for the Nintendo machine

I have commanded it, so it shall be done!

Right now the Wii has sold almost 3 to 1 against the PS3, I dont see them closing that gap that quickly to be honest.

Me neither, and also i think the Xbox would be the winner in the end....

the only way i will use a xbox/ps3 is when someone gives me one for free... and since thats not likely to happen anytime soon, :D

I've got all three (it's sad, I know), so I often have the opportunity to demo all three to people, most of whom are not hard-core gamers.

What I found is that 99% of them go out and buy a Wii, but they don't buy many titles. (not that there are many in SA at the moment).

People like the X-Box as it seems to give the best graphics/price ratio, there are enough titles and you get a Media Extender thrown in (a growing market).

The PS3 graphics blows everyone away, but the pricing and the intense games gives it a 'hard-core' image. Where are the titles? But the PS3 still is one of the cheapest ways to get Bluray (also a small, but growing market)

I can't see the Wii console NOT staying on top in sales but the X-Box titles will lead the software sales.

Sony will have to halve the PS3 price before sales will pick up at any kind of rate to start eating into the Wii.

I wouldnt be surprised if I am one of the biggest fanboys here, but IMO and unfortuantely, I think that once ht eprice of teh PS3 reaches the right point, the uptake will be massive. I hate to say it, but htere are a lot of plebs out there that will buy teh PS3... If you look at PS1 and 2 stats teh obvious question is why would those same people not buy a PS3 if teh price was right.

Beginning to sound like me...

PS3 if teh price was right.

I'd buy a PS3 for R2500. Really, the prices of games on consoles these days are nuts. R600 for a game? That just drives me to read a book.

My goodness your typing is terrible

lol why dont they talk about profit? Consoles sales are just numbers if the PS3 costs 3x more than the Wii. And its almost guaranteed that the wii will sell more units since its aimed at everyone except decent/hardcore games which is about 70%/80% of the worlds population (if my figures are correct).

But I think there aren't many wii titles sold in SA mainly because:
a) were in SA and Mi-Digital or who ever handles imports are falling behind.
b) there is a lack of decent titles in general for the wii console, just a hand full stand out.

I think the xbox360 had an awesome strategy of selling core models, premium, elite and now the arcade included with the 3 year warranty for the RROD. I think they will continue to dominate the gaming scene (the grandpa down the street who has a wii and plays for entertainment purposes is not part of the gaming scene ).

But I think the PS3 will do better when the format war is over and Bluray (almost sealed) becomes the industry standard and 2 when, i'm sad to say this, the PS3 becomes hackable and copied games can be played on it.

Piracy seems to be casual and slack in SA since we have people selling consoles stating it comes with 40 copied games, even here on myadsl, but looking at the price of games which sits at R400 to R650 who can blaim them? After 4 games you paid the same amount as you paid for your console...Just look at how the Xbox360 sales spiked in SA alone when it was first hacked...

Well thats my 2c....

I've played on a friends PS3 and I must say... my Xbox360 is way better! :D

The 2 titles my friend had at the time, I don't recall, what I do recall though is the fact that the intro's were exciting, laced with cocaine that got you ready for a hyper gaming experience... and then when it gets to gameplay... PS2 all over again :o

Coming off the high which was PS2, you're/we're thinking that PS3 is gonna have so much more to offer.
I'm afraid, by what I've seen here, by console pricing and gaming titles available, Xbox360 is the way to go.

As for the Wii, I've only ever seen them in the stores and at V3G's place and I decided not to play the Wii at his place, cos I was heel dronk and was not prepared to pay for anything I may have donnered over :p :D

It'll be interesting to see what sales will do in this year.
PS3's will only play catch up once they drop the ridiculous pricing on the darn console. (and release more/better titles)

the problem with all these consoles are that they look better than what they are.the intro is good until you get to the game.....

Try and explain that to the BSA... or do they only cover business software :D

Anyways... I hate consoles out of principle, but I'd get a Wii - even with the limited titles, it still seems like a lot of fun.

Actually the analysts writing the research reports for the banks know more about these companies, their products, new developments etc than many who work for those said companies. Their forecasts are what helps drive the share price of these companies and they are often on a 1st name basis wih the CEOs. Many articles are written by these analysts or with their help/research.

These guys are also professonals in their specific industry and will only look after maybe 8 companies in the multimedia industry for instance - they know a lot more about these products than you give them credit for.

Well, for someone with so many connections in the game industry, he really failed to mention anything new in his article. Actually, I've just read it again and most of the information in that article I've known of a month ago.

Wii takes away what i love about consoles, nothing beats lying in your bed or couch with a blanket on top of u, while playing some awsome game in true leisure.

Has for the Xbox/Ps3, i mean really why must i get a xbox if the game titles get release for my pc anyways (and they cheaper and look better).

Guess i will go for the Ps3. Yea not so many titles at the moment, but I'm sure that will change in the future. (And it would look so cool next to New Sony LCD TV, :D)

That's a really bad reason not to get a 360. Games like Mass Effect still haven't been announced for the PC.

The 360 is the best bang for your buck at the moment.

Yea sure but that was an exclusive title (which will probably end up on pc later on anyways).

Still i would take the Ps3, when those exclusive titles start popping from sony you won't see them anywhere. (Final Fantasy XIII anyone)

I'm not saying xbox is a bad investment, sure it is, all i'm saying about it is that almost all its titles will end up on my PC. If i didn't have a Pc i would probably be singing a different tune, but that isn't the case. The Ps3 will offer me more value then the xbox, because i will be able to play games that will probably never see the PC.

It would be silly for me to purchase a Xbox, but am glad this machine exits or i would of never have played a gem of a game that Gears of war was, can't wait for the sequel :D

I think people are writing of the 360 way to early... The author should also check his facts since the 360 has the cheapest games and is available for R2600 (not R3600)...

It looks like he has been caught up in the media spin :D
