I wouldnt attempt flipping it in transit for this very reason. Its either up or down. I installed it last night, there is no way for them to see the device behind the bracket unless they suspect and physically dismantle the back end of the bike.

Does it flip up or down? If it flips up it might still be visible to the cameras.

When will you flip it then? When you leave home or when you enter the highway? In either case if they see you on the e-toll road without a visible number plate they will come for you.

Flips back and tucked away under the seat. I have never seen one biker being pulled over on the N1 for not having plates. It may change with Scamral but time will tell. All i know is im not paying a cent to them one way or another

I'm also not paying, why go through the pain and cost to install a flipper?

Wonder if it is only a network problem or some bigger?

Reckon it's something bigger. Possibly something as stupid as unindexed databases coupled with crappy software design causing massive overheads which their servers can't cope with.

With that being said, I wonder what they use to connect to the servers containing transactional data. Wireless perhaps? It would make sense for those portable stalls in the malls.

+1, you might have good intentions but there's no denying the temptation. You might wake up late for an important meeting and decide to just flip back your number plates and fly at break-neck speeds down the highway because you are 'untouchable'.

With great power comes great responsibility :D

Um, one only needs to flip it while passing under the gantry... :erm:

They don't measure how long you travel, you pay a fixed fee (dependent on your vehicle class and e-tag or not) for passing under a gantry.

I'm aware of that, but Rakabos specifically said that he won't flip it up while in motion. So I asked him when he intended to flip it up. The more you flip it the bigger the chances that you will be seen doing it.

I don't see how he cannot flip it while in motion?
Unless he is planning on stopping just before every gantry to flip it?

I disagree, I think that is exactly the charge that he will get if caught.

SANRAL's cowboys will make a point of pursuing those without plates, and if they then pull you over and you suddenly have plates you will be in for a world of hurt in your prison cell.

They will argue that since he has the flipper installed he might as well use it to avoid speed cameras or clear cut identification of his vehicle which is "defeating the ends of justice"

Of course, if in the factual situation it is proved that his intention was to avoid speed camera detection, then only would I agree with you, for attempting to obstruct the course of justice. However, we talking about using the flipper to avoid paying SANRAL. SANRAL toll-fees do not constitute any part of our justice system or law enforcement, a crucial element necessary for conviction - I foresee fraud charges having more relevance.

He will be charged with obstructing the course of justice, as well as for being in breach of the RTA. This is not really up for debate with intent or anything of the sort. He has a number plate flipper, if he is caught with it he will be in groot k@k.

In the case of SANRAL it could be more aptly described as obstructing the course of INjustice.

Last time I looked the crime of obstructing the course of justice is not strict liability, culpability in the form of intention is required for successful conviction.

Having the flipper is intent enough for them to nail him to the wall. SANRAL will not even have to get involved in this in any way shape or form.

That would be unconstitutional, in my opinion.

Nope. The only purpose of the device is to evade tolls or cameras. In addition to failing to pay tolls (which is a criminal offence), as many have said, you will face an additional charge of obstruction of justice.

Now you are just trolling. This has been repeatedly explained to you. It is against the law. Deal with it and move on with your life now.

You are outright rude, but then I don't mind when I see that you premise your post from misinformation. Should I repeat it to you - I never once submitted that this is not against the law - align the facts of my posts before you accuse me of something. I wish to debate on which charge is applicable and you call it trolling?? FFS!
