Ive had one disc stolen off my bike, another got wet. So now i keep it in my wallet. Many roadblocks later, cops have no issue with this

Ja, I don't think the cameras can pick up the Licence disk.

But I have to agree with the other guys here, using some kind of licence plater flipping device is just asking for trouble.
And I would not cry one tear if they throw your ass in jail.
Same goes for people who have no licence plates or obscure their plates.

Not a chance they can see the discs?

Ja, it was discussed earlier in this thread. Apparently the cameras they are using do not have the resolution needed.
These are just pretty much standard traffic cameras only capable of picking up the figures on the plate.... not the licence disc.

Just remember I am pretty sure their cameras capture your disc too

if that were true, they could probably fine you for too little tread on your tyres ;-) - no way they can save that amount of data on every vehicle, me thinks

Confirmed from my source: they cannot read the license disc...yet...they can upgrade the cameras at a later stage quite easily but the software isn't setup to read the discs in the first place...

Hmmm, have just seen another interesting example.

A private individual received an etoll account at his home address for a vehicle that was traded in by the individuals company about six months ago, well before etolling started.

Two interesting issues :

1) The vehicle was in the company's name, but was sold six months ago, did the motor trader screw up and the vehicle is still in the company's name. How do you check this, will AARTO / eNatis give you this information ? Or is this just another example of SANRAL using an old vehicle record database ?

2) All details for the vehicle (addresses, etc) were on record as the company's registered address. Yet the invoice arrived at the private address of this employee (who is the responsible person for the company cars at the company). How did SANRAL get to the private address of the employee ? Some illegal "hacking" perhaps ?

I wonder when I am going to jail...

Been using the highways regular without bothering about the bill...

Yes marine I agree with this. My contention is that I believe the offence won't read "defeating the ends of justice".

I disagree, I think that is exactly the charge that he will get if caught.

SANRAL's cowboys will make a point of pursuing those without plates, and if they then pull you over and you suddenly have plates you will be in for a world of hurt in your prison cell.

They will argue that since he has the flipper installed he might as well use it to avoid speed cameras or clear cut identification of his vehicle which is "defeating the ends of justice"

I wouldnt attempt flipping it in transit for this very reason. Its either up or down. I installed it last night, there is no way for them to see the device behind the bracket unless they suspect and physically dismantle the back end of the bike.
