The Getz Thread

okay, got myself one of these, still have the Picanto, but here in CPT, Im tired of riding B*tch on Peoples Ubers/Bolts
2010 1.4, not sure if its the High spec one, does not have a High center Stop light, so not sure if that tells you something?

compared to the Picanto, a lot of similarities, indicator and windshield stalk are identical, parts sharing between Kia/Hyundai!
but other things look completely different, much better equipped with Airbag/E/W/P/S Aircon and so on that the Bog Basic Picanto that power steering is absent

few things I found so far, wanted to ask others who have had this exact car, Speedo works brilliantly during the day,
but at night does not illuminate, what needs to be fixed there? same with the HVAC controls, Im assuming there's a bulb gone there.
(part numbers/Cost?)

Fan only works in Speed 4, I assuming thats a Fan speed resistor, any idea if its a simple fix?

Not seeing the Blue/Red engine temp indicators come on on startup, is that something to worry about?

recalls, any active on this car? where to check?

overall, I think I hit the jackpot with my Extremely constrained budget,
Car had Major Service (head gasket/ timing belt/full service all that jazz) for 23K in 2022, have the invoice from Car service city in my hands.
paid 48K for it, with 173000 on the clock, considering it was on We buy cars forecourt for a while now (62K) and slowly fell in price to 45K, with fees it comes to 48K.

now before people call me a Donkey for buying from we buy cars, Brought a old school mechanic with me to look at the cars, immediately told me what to buy, and what to not buy. paid handsomely for the privilege, took a test drive with it, with the mechanic, drove like a dream,

has some service history, will see whats on Hyundais system, but at least it was somewhat looked after. got a few Dents, got a bit of rust on the roof aerial
but mechanic checked underneath, looks okay, Exhaust silencer is standard but rusted, so that's on the list of things to fix,

overall, wanted to ask here on MYBB as I'm sure quite a few owned this car, wanted to ask if anybody has their brochure, want to see the specs.

also, whats correct oil for this car, brand? Know my Picanto only works properly with Shell Helix, otherwise the tappets make a noise.
I'm Assuming the same here?

My son's Getz is a 2009 with 170000km on it. To be honest, it's not been a really reliable car. The previous owner was a colleague, and she looked after it pretty well - regular services, etc. I bought it for my daughter a few years back, and there have been funny things that really should not happen. Like the rubbers at the bottom of the windows are all cracked and disintegrating. We had to do the main bearings on the engine. One electric window winder failed, haven't got around to replacing it yet. And currently we think the head gasket is shot, so we'll need to get that sorted; it's never overheated, as far as I know. Quite disappointing, actually.

And an update - we had the head skimmed, new head gasket, new cambelt and belts, and it runs so much better! R6K well spent.

We think the reason the main bearings filed were due to a panelbeater. I suspect when they were welding, they didn't disconnect the battery, and the bearings welded themselves to the crank.

I didn't even know that was possible.
