so Shopping around for Panelbeating-rust repair quotes for my car,
Hyundai Getz, see photos,

apparently its quite common, a so called weakness of these cars, glad its so obvious and still lets you drive perfectly well,

all of them tell me the Windscreen needs to be removed from the car, in 95% of cases its okay it doesn't crack, but there is that 5% where it does,
also tell me the beading is hard, so it will be tricky,

how true is this? also tell me they have to drop the headliner and thats quite labour intensive.

another thing they tell me is they say it will take between 3 and 4 working days to sort this out,

is that timeframe accurate?
cant be without a car for too long, but they intend to cut out a hole, weld it, paint it, sand it and there will be no aerial in its place,

so quotes I got ranged from R3500 from a place doing Quantums and supporting Hamas 🤬
to another dude next door who gave me a quote of about R5100,

to a 3rd dude who told me we replace the entire Roof panel for 10K

honestly just shopping around at this point, want it done as quickly as possible, over a weekend so I need to take minimal leave
roof ISNT leaking, not a top priority, but people tell me here at the coast everything rusts and its just a matter of time before it gets worse,
unlike JHB where cars can go for years and it wont get worse.

honestly probably will go for the dude in the middle of the road, if what he says is accurate,
I dont support terrorists or terrorist lovers (for obvious reasons) so even if he is cheap I doubt he will do a great job for 3,5K.

last dude trying his luck to replace the entire roof panel is just dreaming I drive a Ferrari and not a Humble Getz,

what do y'all think?

If It was insurance claim probably 15k job lol

Don't need to fo whole roof, I would go R5000 odd quote.

Angle grinder with a wire brush wheel, rust converter, body filler, sanding block and some 220 grit sheets, one spray can with the closest colour match you can find and one can of clear lacquer and you can do this yourself over a weekend for less than 1500k including buying the cheapest angle grinder you can find if you don't own one already..

dont own an angle grinder, and have given some thought to bondo or putting a big sticker over it and calling it a day,
but will the repair last?

You'd need to get to the underside of the panel to make sure you get all the rust. If it's spread to the windscreen it will have to come out to fix it somewhat properly.

Like I said, it's going to cost you 1500 or less even if you buy a new angle grinder and can go punt it to cash crusaders once done..

As for lasting, if you get all the rust off and converted, it will last at least the next 10 years..

No, you need to get to ALL of the rust, just covering it with filler or a sticker won't stop it from spreading.

Yeah, he will see the extent of the rust once he starts removing it..

Have they removed the headliner to check from inside.
