At my company it's just a position, don't have to do any job.Nope it isn'tWe renovated our house last year and used Mr Gutter. I don't think they'll even remember me lol. But they gave great service and the gutters look good so I'm paying forward with a recommendation.

Fair point. At my company it's just a position, don't have to do any job.
While I happily do a lot myself, this is maybe one thing I'd pay for again rather than doing it myself.
They were about 6 guys, with maybe 3 small vacuum cleaners. Took them 1.5 days to do my modest sized house and bags and bags of dirt.
Coming down from the roof to empty the vacuum every 15 minutes would be tiring, and doing this in the ceiling all the time would be uncomfortable. Depends on how dirty it is up there, and how clean you want it though.
2 days to vacuum, 5 days recovery for back pain... no thanks
It also creates a bit of dust in the house, through the smallest of cracks around light fixtures and ventilation things.
Up to you though, it's not a difficult job - just requires a level of fitness and stamina.
its fine i mostly hate myself anyway
Me too.Fair point.
I can understand how my post could raise suspicion as the first time I posted was to recommend a company.
But I promise, I don't work for Mr Gutter. If I did, I would have been clear in the first post.
I use this forum (the home improvements threads in particular) for info on stuff I know zilch about. I'm online today to search for info on security cameras.
Busy upgrading my DVR to an NVR... looking forward to not having to struggle with a power supply and having everything go via POE. Cameras are just painfully expensive though.Fair point.

My kitchen is about the same size as yours.... but I only have 2 walls to work with.. but be different my son.... Don't stay within the realms of what you think is normal.
I have a quartz Island, but the other counter top is french oak...

(apologies for the poor quality images, they were taken when the kitchen had just finished being installed)
Oh and for @martin , those cupboards are all formica covered.. so what you have on your counter tops are on all the cupboard doors.
Custom made solid French oak... And 22mm thick so near match to the quartz counter on the island. Those French Oak tops look thin but very sexy with a perfect edge rounding. Is it custom made and what is the secret ?definitely not 32mm lifeseal tops.
@Steamy Tom Yea I'm over it, I'll only use big companies with a reputation and full payment after completion. Or avoid as much as I can. Not because it's the best way, just to avoid the frustration.
Sucks when this happens, had to do a little today myself with the turning weather to make sure things didn't get damaged.how do i always manage to find these fsck up contractor/handy man types...really ffs
I intended to do a ton of work at my place myself, I started off and i just realised it was a lot of work and being someone who works long and hard i thought fck it let me get it done properly and support someone local, i wanted the work done quicker than i could manage and with good quality.
So i get a guy in, he has been recommended on a local group many times and has been around for a while, his work looks good etc. The price is a little rough for me but all in all i figure it is reasonable for the market.
Anyway roll on to the week work should start and he rocks up saying he is sorry yada yada and his last job had some suprises etc he would rather finish up properly so he can focus on my job (note: when he came to quote i was quite explicit that i am tired of these guys who are never on site with their labour and if i wanted to supervise or deal with the guys myself i would just do that and save a ton of money), so i agree that its fine and he can start the next week so he can get everything out the way.
The next week rolls on and he comes onto site and things get going, basically from the first day it was stories of he needs to pop off to do this or that etc and then it will be done... since then he literally pops in 3 times a day at best, to drop off, maybe around midday, and then to collect :/ during this i check on the guys and often they ask me for something, a spare ladder, a hosepipe, a rake, a broom, a spade etc etc - i have gone so far as to give a hand with the odd thing because of how i am inclined.
Anyway things were still going ok i guess and I am just trying to ride it out, but we are now 2 weeks into the job and imo the amount of work done is more like a weeks worth at best.
Today he phones me and tells me his guys havent pitched and he can't get hold of them and isnt sure what is happening, apologies and blames the countries work force etc
I can only fathom given it was just a friday that the guys are acting up because of money stories - in my experience this is what causes the issues, if it was 1 guy or something it could be something different, but not all 3 of his staff at the same time.
I guess i will have to see what tomorrow holds :/ The problem at the moment is that i am so far in the hole with the deposits that there isnt that much i can do yet...super annoyed![]()

Overall still holding thumbs but the site is quite a mess.
Worst part is that you can't opt out at this stage, and are left with the irritation of working with someone who seems to be BS'ing his way through.
Upside is that they removed what was there before.
Sit with the same fcking problem. Allready told the cnUnt one more fckup and i'll chase him away. Seriously thinking of giving him jack schit when done. Maybe a PK.yeah i will have to see how it goes i guess, my opinion of the guy in general was that he is otherwise a good oke, not sure whats going on but just wish people could be straight up

sweet, I actually want to do the opposite as you...wood counter island and HPL countertops for rest but in 22mm. quartz or caesar unfortunately out of my budget. coutertops in my kitchen is a good 15m running length incl. the side pieces.
Yes, also realized that so I thought of rather keeping the hob or any water element away from the wood island. These will the kept at the normal countertops.TBH, I doubt I would do any sort of wood around a cooking surface at all... The oil and fat from cooking would stain them insanely quickly.
How much money do you want to spend..? If around 10k, you want a track saw, one example:To cut sheets of wood with straight lines, what's the best saw to get for home use?
