Any recommendations for someone who can fit a new gate motor for me? I have the new D5 smart to be fitted.

Need the installer to be comfortable with Cat6 crimping as I need cameras and intercom connected at the same time.

Edit: In CPT

Just some advice place the motor halfway vertically with the tracks instead of along the bottom.

i always think this looks beyond odd

Yeah it looks fekking odd, I've seen a few places with it, and it just looks like someone fscked something up and is trying to "make it work"

Also, for me at least, it seems like a considerably less secure method as it brings the motor up to normal standing height for people outside, and it would make it harder to secure the motor properly.

In Cape Town it reduces the chances of the motor getting flooded. I do have a lot of water passing through there. Mine is so old, would almost be ok if stolen.
Also easier to work on it half way up.

Fair enough on the water part... don't have that issue here in Durbs.

We just have battery thievery issues and such so keeping it on the ground makes it easier to secure the motor properly to stop those wankers.

What's the science behind this..?

I am not a scientist but if you unlock your motor off the rails and you pull the gate with one hand first holding it at the bottom and then in the middle you will feel less resistance in the middle. The installers are also supposed to use a spring device that shows you the force required to open and close the gate. I am not sure why it would be less secure, my mother's we put on a brick pillar and it's secure with the same bolts as it would on the ground. It is more secure to get a bracket over the cover with a lock. Also harder to try and lift something secured in the middle than at the bottom.

Has anyone had a similar issue with there roll up garage door which does not roll up properly as shown in the attached and what have you done to repair it.

My garage door is messed up, it's currently on manual as the motor board is damaged. IMG_20210817_082254.jpgIMG_20210817_082331.jpg

At previous house, this only happened when the motor didn't stop when it should.

That said, if this still happens after unlocking the motor from the door, its possible the spring inside is lose or unhooked etc. No idea how to fix it though.

The other problem is, if you roll it up and it is already loose, then that also happens. Like roll down completely and then first make sure it sits snugg where it should roll on to itself. Dont think this is your issue though.

The door spring seems to have lost some of it's tension. I would think that the spring would need to be re-tensioned to spec.

PS. I would be VERY careful not to play with that spring mechanism unless you know what you are doing. That's a quick ticket to the ER.

ER?

Fscking around with those springs when you don't know what you're doing is a quick ticket to the damn disability grant queue if you're lucky, or your local funeral home if you aren't.

to me that looks like the door isnt going down when the motor is opening resulting in the curtain spooling over the drum like that, close the door manually a few times and make sure it moves freely, then engage and try again. it most likely got stuck or caught coming down.

it looks like your friction material strip on the one side there has definately seen better days

I've got 4 windows that are a real pain right now that need to be done, one is a bathroom window, the other 3 are about a meter and a half, so would expect it to be roughly that price yeah. I did have the contractor replace the glass last year in one of them, as his guy smashed the glass with his ladder, but they left the tape on the putty and it got hard so now it's also stuck :-(
Just did:
2x 3 pane windows +- 1.5m
1x 2 pane window +- 1m
1x 2 pane bathroom/privacy window +- 1m
1x mini window (including bricking up existing hole to make smaller. See pic)

paid 16.5k installed. Thought it was a fair deal

Speaking of kitchens. Has anyone done an eezi quartz countertop recently and what did it cost per m2?
Any hints for finding a good value installer in the Cape Town/ Somerset West area?
I'm renovating a 2 bed cottage with a new galley kitchen.

Can I just sand and then rattle-can a new coat onto these metal chairs?
