This is my setup for drilling into glass tiles and glazed porcelain tiles, works a charm. I start with the glass and tile drill bit, then move over to the red multicut bit once I'm through the tile. Neither uses hammer, just normal drilling.

I go slow and dip the bit in water as well as spray, end up with completely perfect holes. I even drilled right on the edge of a glass mosaic tile, I was certain it was going to chip but nope - came out perfectly.

Link to the drill bits on the left please

@ToxicBunny sorry not sure if I asked this or you answered: that SIKA you used, what kind of finish did it have?

want to get something that gives the floor a rough'ish texture to walk on and especially when wet

ooooof that basin size
Yeah it's tiny, but had to make most of granny flat space. It's ok for washing hands and brushing teeth, but more than that you'll need to wash your arse in the shower

Looking to get those artificial garden walls at my place. Does anyone have any referrals?

I'm thinking of doing my own carport, since I've given up on finding someone who I can afford but I can also trust. The carport will go against the side of my house. I'm still trying to work out if:

  • I should remove the gutter from the fascia and attach one side of carport against the fascia
  • Should I go underneath the eaves/soffit and attach the one end to the wall instead of the fascia
  • Which side should the gutter (and therefore slope) be
  • What options do I have for making it look nice, and not just a hokkie type covering.
Any ideas or pics of your own carport would be much appreciated, even better would be some pics of how your frame is built.

I have two carports I wanna do, going to do the small 3 x 3m one first to see if I can manage.

If you go below the aves against the wall, make sure that with the drop you still have enough headroom, and that you have enough space against the wall to do water proofing

then regarding which way the slope runs: follow the same flow as the roof.

edit: waves -> eaves

definately under the fascia

the slope angle entirely depends on the situation, obviously not towards the house, generally towards whichever end is open

This is what I'm working with.

View from front, I want this gate gate to open inwards. You can also see on the left hand post is a bracket made for attaching the carport frame. That little bracket is probably just a little higher than the gutter on the fascia.

View from inside, I'm going to be removing this awning and replacing it with a carport.

So the challenges I see are. If I attach what I'd want to be the high end of the carport to the fascia then I don't have enough drop sloping towards the left (view from front), also where would the gutter then go since I've removed it to attach the carport to the fascia.

I can't attach it to the wall under the eaves because then the gate won't open inwards.
I was also thinking to reuse those brackets metal brackets that are attached to the wall keeping the awning up.

So something like this:

I dunno, very early stages of brainstorming here still. To add to that I also still want the water to fall to the front so I can get it into my jojo tanks.

Is this 3x3m?

that could work but I’d be worried about wind scooping that structure unless you have many of those brackets

It's about 2.2 x 3.
I could get another bracket or two made up. That area does have good wind protection though.

Would that gutter be able to carry all the water from both roofs if it rains hard?

Guys, we're looking for renovators for a few projects for our place in Cape Town (Durbanville). After reading the horror stories here...anyone can recommend a company that they have experience with? Feel free to send PM if you don't want to share publicly.

Let me know if you find someone who is good..

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it should be fine. There's another gutter just 7 meters away.

I feel like the horror stories bit is directed at me a largely

Good luck hey... really.
Post your shortlist here when you're ready to decide, just to possibly weed out some who this forum has had experience with.

I wanted to ask..."anyone got a list of contractors SAguy has not worked with" but didn't want to single you out :p

You would be very surprised at the volume of water that comes off a roof in a decent downpour.
Honestly, I would suggest that the awning you plan to put in has its own gutter system, then you also remove the conundrum of how to attach it and get the right fall etc etc etc.

I could do that yeah, gives me more options for slope direction too.

This, but then also I am surprise how much the gutters can carry when properly aligned downward to the downpipe. Current place this was done wrong, so I spent an hour redoing it by myself. Before this, water would overflow in the one corner, now that is sorted out.
